Skånes University Hospital (Sus) is one of two hospitals in Sweden that provides National Highly Specialized Care (NHV) in pediatric cardiac surgery. This means that children and young people between the ages of 0 and 8 from large parts of the country come to us at the Pediatric Heart Center. We are genuinely proud to have the opportunity to help these children and meet them based on their individual needs. Often, we get to follow children for a long time from when they are operated on until they become adults.

The Pediatric Heart Center includes an inpatient ward, day care activities, and clinics in Lund and Malmö. The department also conducts research in medicine and health sciences. The Pediatric Heart Center is an important part of the national highly specialized care in pediatric cardiac surgery and has a close collaboration, especially with the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (BIVA) and pediatric surgery.

Pediatric Heart Center Lund

Pediatric Heart Center Lund is part of the Pediatric Heart Center and receives children and young people from the southern and middle regions of Sweden as well as from Iceland. The majority of our patients are younger and small children with various types of heart defects. The activity is both planned and acute, and we primarily work with pre- and postoperative care. Additionally, children and young people with acquired heart and arrhythmia diseases and heart failure are treated, including those undergoing heart transplantation pre- and postoperatively and those treated with a heart pump.

For children who need extra monitoring, two intermediate care beds are available. Children and young people come to our outpatient and day care activities to be examined for various heart diseases or to be followed up after being treated for heart defects. At the larger clinic in Lund, pediatric nurses, pediatric specialist nurses, and doctors work together. In Malmö, there is a pediatric cardiology clinic staffed by a pediatric specialist nurse and a doctor.

Within the Pediatric Heart Center, we have a multifaceted work environment. Here, research nurses, contact nurses, transplant nurses, and heart catheterization responsible nurses work together with other professional categories to develop the activity.

Development and Support

We continuously conduct activity development through various focus groups, which you have the opportunity to participate in when you feel ready. We are constantly working to develop the role of the assistant nurse, and there is experienced support in daily operations as well as a clinical coach who helps you both theoretically and practically to gain clinical skills. Qualifications

We are looking for you who are trained as an assistant nurse and meet the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for a protected professional title, regardless of whether you studied under the previous or current program structure. You have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing. We welcome you who have a genuine interest in pediatric nursing. As a person, you have an open approach and see opportunities instead of difficulties. You enjoy working independently while also liking to collaborate, are sensitive, patient, and share your knowledge during teamwork. Your work style is characterized by lack of hierarchy and flexibility when the situation requires it. We also see that you are development-oriented, curious, engaged, and creative in problem-solving. Great importance will be placed on good teamwork skills and personal suitability.
