About Us

The Gastroenterological Endoscopy Clinic (GEA) at Sahlgrenska is a unit that performs endoscopic examinations, such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and ERCP, among others, in the gastrointestinal tract for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. At GEA, nurses, assistant nurses, doctors, and secretaries work together. We receive outpatient patients and patients from inpatient wards at the hospital. The department is open Monday to Friday during daytime hours and handles both planned and emergency cases. GEA is a unit within the Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at VO Specialist Medicine/Sahlgrenska, and we have a well-developed collaboration within the section among our various care units.

Our operations are constantly evolving medically, technically, and in terms of nursing care. New methods are added, the scope of work is expanding, and future demand will increase due to expanded opportunities to perform advanced treatments in connection with endoscopy. As Sahlgrenska is a university hospital, GEA is at the forefront of developing and establishing new and advanced methods within endoscopy. Several interesting research projects are ongoing and are integrated daily with clinical operations. Already today, several procedures are successfully performed at GEA that were previously carried out in operating rooms. Screening for colorectal cancer has started in the Region of Västra Götaland (VGR), and GEA is part of this important activity.

Staff turnover is low in our unit, and we are currently recruiting because a colleague is pursuing further education.

About the Job

As a nurse at GEA, you are responsible for nursing care in connection with endoscopy and work in close collaboration with doctors within gastroenterology and surgery.

The tasks for a nurse at GEA are very varied, including nursing care and assisting during endoscopy, administrative duties, instrument handling, and patient care before and after endoscopy. Patients coming to GEA vary greatly depending on their medical condition. Outpatients are generally in relatively good health, while patients treated in the hospital often have significant nursing needs during endoscopy, making the nurse's competence a crucial part of patient care. Initially, you will be introduced to the less advanced parts of the operation before gradually being introduced to more complex tasks. Development opportunities are virtually unlimited, as the role can also expand to other units within the Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

About You

You will work closely with patients and possess a good manner, understanding, and interest in people. You are good at listening and communicating with both patients and their relatives, and you always work from a person-centered approach. You are also interested in medical technology equipment.

Since you work in a team, you need to have good collaboration skills.

You are confident and stable, able to adapt to situations and prioritize. To thrive in this role, you need to be flexible, accustomed to taking initiative, and able to organize and plan your work independently.

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse with at least a few years of experience in the profession. You should have previous experience in gastroenterological care or equivalent.
