Description

Do you want to work in an international environment in Gothenburg? We are currently looking for a special needs teacher/special educator who can support a diverse group of students—from high achievers who need help managing their deadlines to those who require more collaborative guidance. You should be comfortable switching between English and Swedish, as English is the main language spoken at our school.

About the Workplace

Our vision is for Gothenburg to be an internationally leading city of education and knowledge. We work based on the equal value and rights of all people. Together, we create a work environment where both students and employees are involved and work towards each other's success.

The Education Administration in Gothenburg operates municipal upper secondary schools, adult education, vocational colleges, special upper secondary schools, study and career guidance, mother tongue instruction, and school development. In our work, we have a clear student focus that places knowledge and skills in a context where intrinsic motivation, co-creation, and a desire to learn are important ingredients.

The International High School of the Gothenburg Region is one of the very few high schools in Sweden that offers the Swedish national programs taught entirely in English as well as the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB Diploma Programme).

Our truly international learning environment challenges our students to grow together, using English as their language of instruction, alongside teachers and classmates from different cultural backgrounds. Many of our ambitious and motivated students plan to continue their university and higher education in English-speaking countries. We offer both students and staff the opportunity to participate in various exchange programs, including travel to different destinations across Europe and Africa.

The International High School offers four programs: The IB Diploma Programme, the Social Science Program, the Natural Science Program, and the Social Science Program with courses in advanced English (Spets). The Spets program with advanced English is unique in Sweden and entails close cooperation with the University of Gothenburg. For the IB Diploma Programme and the Spets program, we apply an entrance test procedure to place the students.

Job Responsibilities

The International High School of the Gothenburg Region is seeking a special educator who can provide support in reading and writing development, structure, and study skills, conduct assessments of students, and support teachers. The role may also include supervising student assistants and supporting the school's various pedagogical work groups from a special educational perspective.

Together with our highly competent student health team, you will plan and lead the work with students in need of special support. In collaboration with teachers and guardians, you will create action plans and communicate adjustments. You will also support the principal, deputy principal, and coordinators (IB and national programs) in school development work involving pedagogical analyses and didactic challenges.

We assume that you have extensive familiarity with compensatory aids and the reporting functions used by the student health service. You also possess strong digital competence.

To work full-time, you will teach either Swedish, Swedish as a Second Language (SVA), Mathematics, or Social Studies.

Qualifications

You have a teaching license, eligibility for upper secondary school in one of the subjects: Swedish, SVA, Mathematics, or Social Studies, and experience teaching students in normal class sizes at the upper secondary level. A special education degree is also required.

Competence in CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), experience teaching in an English-speaking school, and experience with the IB are considered meritorious. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability. Interviews may be conducted on a rolling basis.

Conditions

Employment type: Permanent

Scope: 80% special educator + possibility to teach an additional 20% (full-time).

Start date: 2026-08-10

Working hours: Summer term position
