About Gullhögskolan

Gullhögskolan is Vårgårda Municipality's upper secondary school (grades 7-9) with approximately 410 students. Here, all the municipality's youth gather to jointly complete the final stage of compulsory school. We are located centrally in Vårgårda, and you can easily reach us from the surrounding municipalities. Our school is a place to be proud of.

Every day, over 60 staff members work here for our wonderful students. We are organized into work teams around three classes in the same grade and subject teams for collaboration and support in subject development. You will be part of the work team "spec-team" and the subject team for mathematics or Swedish. Together, you are responsible for the students' knowledge development.

In addition to the teaching staff, we have a complete student health team with 1–2 persons per profession. Branching off from the Student Health Team (SHT) is the spec-team, which provides students with support in their learning, and the social team, which supports social development with recess activities, adult presence, work against bullying, and work for attendance. We have our own caretaker, a fantastic school cafeteria, an office, and a nice school library with a trained librarian in collaboration with teachers. We also have a special education group, adapted compulsory school, preparatory group, and are responsible for mother tongue instruction and study guidance in the municipality's compulsory schools.

We focus on cognitive science of learning and teaching, reading analogously, writing by hand, using retrieval in teaching, and ensuring that practical subjects are just practical to the greatest extent possible. We do not adapt away when it becomes difficult; we train more.

Job Responsibilities

Your duties as a special education teacher are standard and include among other things:

• Support teaching individually, in small groups, and in class.
• Planning, implementation, and development of teaching.
• Assessment and consultation with teachers prior to grading (in some cases, also own grading).
• Homework help and extended study time.
• Active participation in the spec-team and subject team.
• Analysis of grades and proposals for resource allocation.
• Investigations, follow-ups, and in some cases, drawing up action plans.
• Collaboration with students, guardians, colleagues, management, and in some cases external actors.
• In some years, it may become relevant for you to teach a whole class in regular mathematics teaching.

Qualifications

We are primarily looking for you who have:

• Teaching certification with eligibility to teach mathematics in grades 7–9 and a special education teacher education with a focus on mathematics.
• OR Teaching certification with eligibility to teach Swedish in grades 7–9 and a special education teacher education with a focus on language, reading, and writing difficulties.

It may also be relevant for teachers as mentioned above who lack the supplementary education to become special education teachers but who have long experience in similar assignments.

Merits

• Previous experience of special education in upper secondary school.
• Knowledge of cognitive science of learning and teaching (science of learning).
