Job Description

Do you want to help strengthen students' reading skills and create a coherent thread in the school's reading work?

We are now looking for an engaged and development-driven Reading Development Specialist for a two-year fixed-term project appointment. The assignment is a central part of our work to implement new provisions in the Education Act regarding school libraries, as well as to put our local reading plan and school library plan into practice.

About the Assignment

As a Reading Development Specialist, you play a key role in developing reading work throughout the organization, from preschool to upper secondary school. You act as a bridge between school librarians, teachers, and principals, with the goal of strengthening collaboration and making the school library's work an integrated part of the school's systematic quality work.

You are responsible for supporting the implementation of our reading plan, which aims to create a common and research-based structure for teaching. Together with the school library coordinator, you are also responsible for our school library plan, which clarifies the library's role as a pedagogical resource in teaching and as part of the school's goal achievement. Since the role is new, the tasks will develop over time.

Your Main Responsibilities (tasks are under construction)

  • Implement the administration's reading plan in collaboration with development officers
  • Collaborate with relevant functions in both the Culture and Leisure Administration and the Child and Education Administration regarding the school library plan
  • Strengthen collaboration between school librarians, teachers, and principals
  • Develop working methods where the school library becomes an active part of teaching and quality work
  • Contribute to school libraries being used as pedagogical resources in line with legal requirements and policy documents
  • Drive and support collegial learning regarding reading and reading development
  • Initiate and lead development efforts related to reading promotion work
  • Collaborate with student health services and other professions to promote reading development for all students
  • Contribute to follow-up and analysis of results at the principal authority level

About the Role

The assignment involves working strategically and operationally to develop new working methods based on the needs of the units. An important part is creating structures that ensure progression, early interventions, and equity in students' reading development.

You will work closely with development officers, principals, school staff, school librarians, and reading specialists, contributing to translating research and policy documents into concrete practice.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Licensed teacher with eligibility in Swedish
  • Documented experience in working with reading and language development
  • Experience in school development or similar development assignments

Merits:

  • Education in library and information science
  • Experience working in or with school libraries
  • Experience leading change work and implementing new working methods
  • Experience working with systematic quality work
  • Familiarity with Legilexi
