Several of the faculty's research groups collaborate within the strength area "The Value of the Forest".

The Department of Forest and Wood Technology conducts education and research within a broad scientific area, from forest to finished product and the development of new wood products and materials from the forest. Teaching takes place at undergraduate and advanced levels, and research is conducted within many disciplines such as forest management, forest economics, forest ecology, the climate benefits of forests, and wood science. The department consists of approximately 60 employees and operates in modern facilities in Växjö. Would you like to know more about the Department of Forest and Wood Technology? Read more at Lnu.se

Job Description

The Research Assistant will primarily work on research tasks within the framework of the research program "Future Forest Management in Southern Sweden" (FRAS II). In the project, methods from plant physiology (analysis of photosynthesis, water transport, and stress indicators) are combined with phenotyping using multispectral, hyperspectral, and other types of cameras.

The project includes both controlled experiments in greenhouse environments and field studies, where there is an opportunity to stress-treat larger trees and collect data using drones. A further development of the methodology is to link drone data to satellite data, which creates opportunities for satellite-based monitoring with the aim of early detection of new threats to forest health.

The Research Assistant is expected to work with data collection in the field and laboratory, data analysis, scientific reporting, and communication of research results.

The work is carried out in close collaboration with the research environment at the Department of Forest and Wood Technology in Växjö as well as in the trial area Attsjö. The work is also carried out in cooperation with other national and international experts in remote sensing, forest pathology, plant physiology, and phenotyping, and can be conducted with Linnaeus University's research environment DISA (Data Intensive Sciences and Applications).
