Olshammarskolan is an adapted comprehensive school for grades 1-9, where students follow the curriculum for adapted comprehensive school focusing on subject areas. The teaching is individually adapted based on the student's interests, needs, and the school's subject areas. The school also includes an after-school center and activities for students who require short-term stays according to the LSS Act (Support and Service Act for Certain Groups of People with Disabilities). The school is organized in classes with close and good cooperation between teaching assistants, class teachers, and special needs pedagogues.

Job Responsibilities

In the role of a teaching assistant, you are involved in both pedagogical and social contexts regarding the students at school and in the after-school center. Together with your colleagues, you create a meaningful, joyful, and varied school and leisure time with pedagogical quality and the students in focus. You are an active and important part in shaping and developing our learning environments.

The work is based on the student's needs and includes support in teaching situations, care, and self-care. The students need different forms of communication. The assignment involves working in a low-arousal manner with a strong focus on interaction, attitude, and clarifying pedagogy.

Here, you are offered a varied job where no two days are alike. We apply rotation work, which among other things means that you work with different students throughout the day.

We want to develop together. The Comprehensive School Administration offers basic and advanced training for you as a teaching assistant. Olshammarskolan also conducts ongoing further education with both internal and external actors.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a three-year upper secondary education with a pedagogical focus, with a commitment and ability to see each student's possibilities. You, as the applicant, have a professional attitude towards students, parents, and colleagues, and reflect on ethical and value-based issues. You have great patience and are enduring and creative in meeting the student. You are confident and comfortable performing tasks both independently and in a group.

It is meritorious for the position if you have education in support for disabilities, such as support assistant or support pedagogue. Good experience with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), such as sign support, is also meritorious.

It is important for the students that you have extensive experience and knowledge of diagnoses within autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability. You can express yourself orally and in writing in an appropriate manner, including in contact books between home and school. As you will meet all students and staff in all classes, it is assumed that you thrive in a flexible role where collaboration is a central part. It is also important that you are good at creating and maintaining trusting relationships.

It is meritorious if you have experience and knowledge of what clarifying pedagogy is and what a low-arousal interaction entails.

We are looking for staff with commitment and a good ability to see each student, their possibilities, and needs. To motivate, inspire, and challenge the students, you need the ability to show humility, warmth, and the ability to set boundaries. You see everyone's differences as an asset and are curious to find solutions for difficulties that students may encounter in the learning environment.
