About American High School, Gothenburg

On Lindholmen, next to Karlatornet, lies our newly built school where we moved in the autumn of 2024. Around 590 students study at the school on the Natural Science, Technology, Economics, or Social Science programs. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English by a competent and driven teaching staff. There is a strong sense of community within the staff group.

About the position

As a study and career counselor, you work with individual coaching and guidance for our students. You handle the enrollment of new students, follow up on our school queue, and have contact with new students and guardians. You are responsible for the work regarding continuous follow-up of students' graduation prognosis in each grade, handle reporting to CSN, and manage other tasks included in the SYV (Study and Career Counselor) assignment.

You work closely with the school's student health team in the promoting and preventive work. The EHT (Student Health Team) includes a school nurse, counselor, special educator, and the principal.

The role also includes a certain amount of administration and work in various administrative systems such as Admentum, StudyBee, and Google Drive. As a study and career counselor, you work primarily from the front desk where you have most of your conversations with the students. You will also have access to a back office for work with certain administrative tasks.

The position is a permanent employment of 50-70%, with an initial probationary period of 6 months. Start date as soon as possible or according to agreement.

Your profile

We are looking for you who are educated as a study and career counselor, with a degree, and preferably you who also have at least a couple of years of experience working as a study and career counselor. It is also meritorious if you have worked with high school students. You have experience in coaching and guiding students, as well as experience in working closely with the student health team. You are expected to have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both orally and in writing, and you have stable digital competence.

You have a professional attitude in meetings with students, colleagues, and guardians and good insight into people's different prerequisites. You find it easy to cooperate and create good working relationships with a coaching and supervisory approach. As a person, you are solution-oriented, non-hierarchical, and flexible. You see opportunities and you always lead challenges and problems towards solutions. You have an overwhelmingly positive attitude.
