Job Responsibilities

The section performs lower gastrointestinal surgery regarding both malignant and benign surgery. You will work with open surgery, laparoscopic and robotic surgery as well as endoscopy. The section has a strong research focus. The section currently consists of eight consultants/specialists and we continuously have several ST-doctors (residents) placed at the section.

About the Workplace

The Surgical Clinic at Västmanland Hospital, Västerås, serves a catchment area of approx. 280,000 people and is divided into three sections: Upper GI, Lower GI, and Breast/Plastic/Endocrine sections. The clinic has 30 specialists employed and approx. 11 ST-doctors.

Around 30 AT-doctors (interns) are trained annually and we conduct teaching for medical candidates. We repeatedly receive praise for the pleasant atmosphere and collegiality at the clinic and we have a renowned good educational environment.

Around 50% of our specialists are PhDs. Extensive research projects are driven locally as well as in national and international collaboration. If you are interested in research, there are excellent opportunities for this. We collaborate with the Centre for Clinical Research which is part of the Faculty of Medicine at Uppsala University.

Västerås is a city that has developed significantly over the last few decades. Here you find nice residential areas by Lake Mälaren, a large selection of outdoor activities, sports, and cultural life, with good connections to Stockholm, Uppsala, and surrounding cities around Lake Mälaren.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced surgeon with colorectal competence, good collaboration skills, and interest in education. You have been a specialist for at least five years and preferably drive research or have a PhD. You are an independent surgeon in the field and master open, laparoscopic, preferably robot-assisted surgery as well as colonoscopy. You have good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing.

We place great importance on personal qualities such as collaboration skills, engagement, and a positive and solution-oriented attitude. You gladly take on clinic-wide assignments and have the ability to make decisions and know how to structure your tasks independently. Furthermore, you are well updated in your field and can contribute your expertise to colleagues. Extra merit is a great interest and engagement in educating younger colleagues.

Terms of Employment

Permanent employment, full time. Daytime with on-call duties.

Start date according to agreement.
