Are you interested in societal development and creating a long-term sustainable municipality? Then this is a chance for you! The Urban Planning Administration is looking for an engaged and curious trainee for the MEX unit. The unit currently consists of 16 employees whose main task is to represent the municipality as a landowner. We are responsible for the management and development of land that is not zoned, as well as the further development of already zoned areas. Various types of land issues are handled on the unit, such as land assignments, land expropriations, plot waiting lists, purchases, and sales.

Responsibilities

The trainee program will give you a unique insight into the entire urban planning process and the opportunity to participate in building and managing Karlstad.

During your time as a trainee, you will try out several different roles and participate in work across several units, both at the Urban Planning Administration and the Technical and Property Administration. You will, among other things, gain insight into detailed planning, water and sewage issues, street issues, emergency preparedness issues, and much more.

As a trainee, you will simply have the chance to discover several parts of the municipality's operations and build an understanding of how the operations fit together in a larger context.

The program is structured in several different blocks where you will gradually build on your knowledge and develop to become as independent as possible. The experience and network you build during the program will be valuable for your future professional life. The blocks are interspersed with relevant training that strengthens your competence, broadens your understanding, and gives you the opportunity for personal development.

The program runs from September 2026 to May 2027. After completing the trainee program, there may be an opportunity for employment as an MEX engineer or land manager.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a recent graduate from university or college and have a relevant degree of at least 180 higher education credits. Examples of relevant educational areas are surveying, real estate economics, law, urban planning, or another direction that we consider equivalent. We would like you to have taken courses in property law, land use, or property-related issues. Your most recent degree must be no more than two years old, and you must have received your degree before the trainee program starts.

We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. To thrive in the trainee program, you need to be good at making contacts and adapting to different groups. As a person, you are responsible, structured, have analytical skills, and can express yourself well both orally and in writing.

Good computer skills and a B driver's license are required.
