The Department of Economics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences, with approximately 100 employees from about ten countries. Around 1,000 students participate annually in one of our courses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The research focus lies on labor economics, macroeconomics, and public economics. Researchers at the department are frequently hired as experts in public inquiries and in the media, and collaborate in many ways with the surrounding society.
Uppsala Immigration Lab (UIL) and Urban Lab are part of a broad and active research environment at the Department of Economics and the Institute for Housing and Urban Research (IBF). Uppsala Immigration Lab and Urban Lab aim to further strengthen their activities through collaborations within the academic world and with the surrounding society. We study central social issues related to migration, integration, and urban development. The research is quantitatively oriented and utilizes rich data materials and modern methods to create new knowledge. The projects are conducted in collaboration with leading researchers nationally and internationally.
Responsibilities
We are looking for 1–2 research assistants for a fixed-term position of approximately one year at Uppsala Immigration Lab and Urban Lab. As a research assistant, you will work closely with researchers and assist them in research projects. The work covers everything from data collection and processing to assisting researchers conducting advanced econometric analysis in research projects using large register-based, geographical, or historical datasets. Therefore, we look for someone who has an interest in both research and societal issues.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree focused on quantitative analysis, for example in economics, political science, statistics, or computer science.
- Experience working with quantitative data materials.
- Experience programming in e.g., Stata, R, Python, or ArcGIS.
- Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as teamwork and initiative, flexibility, and the ability to analyze data independently.
Desirable/Additional Merits
- A master's degree or ongoing master's studies in e.g., economics, political science, statistics, or computer science are meritorious.
- Experience working with register data or similar large data materials.
- Good ability to express yourself well in both speech and writing in Swedish or English.
About the Position
The position is fixed-term, for approximately 12 months. The scope is full-time. Start date: August 2026 or as agreed. Location: Uppsala.
