Application: Senior Teacher – Subject Network Leader at the Department of Culture and Education

Focus and Purpose
The focus of the senior teacher assignment is to serve as a subject network leader. The purpose is to create conditions for teachers to develop the quality of teaching, strengthen equity, increase goal fulfillment, and develop common guidelines.
There are 16 subject networks in the comprehensive school, and since some subjects lack subject network leaders, we are looking for 5 senior teachers for the following stages and subjects:
- Lower Secondary (Grades 1-3): Swedish/Swedish as a Second Language (SvA)
- Lower Secondary (Grades 4-6): Swedish, English
- Upper Secondary (Grades 6-9): Natural Sciences/Technology (NO/Teknik)
- Grades 1-9: Art (Bild)
Responsibilities
In addition to teaching and other usual teacher duties, the senior teacher's assignment includes:
- Develop and follow relevant research within the subject area and present this to the subject network.
- Lead network meetings where teachers exchange knowledge and experiences, engage with research, and jointly develop new ideas and methods to test in teaching.
- Lead collegial discussions on subject development from the curriculum to assessment and grading.
- Lead collegial learning regarding equitable assessment.
Although many tasks may be local to one or several units, the senior teacher is a municipality-wide resource in a learning organization, where collaboration and knowledge dissemination are central.
The content of the assignment is planned and specified together with the principal and the group of senior teachers.
Conditions for the Assignment
- The senior teacher assignment is part of the position and averages 2 hours per week.
- More time may be allocated if needed, for example in connection with K/A days (planning and administrative days).
- The position is full-time and follows the teacher's working year (40 hours regulated + 5 hours unregulated) to ensure the senior teacher is available for principals and colleagues.
- At least 50 percent of the position must consist of teaching and teaching-related tasks. The regular distribution of duties is not reduced.
- A salary supplement of 5,000 SEK/month is paid for the assignment during the appointment.
- The appointment is time-limited to 2 years, with the possibility of extension if the need persists.
- If the senior teacher changes school units during the appointment, the appointment ceases to apply.
Start Date: 2026-08-13. Time-limited appointment with a permanent position as a teacher as the base.
Qualifications and Merits
A senior teacher should:
- Hold a teaching license issued by the Swedish National Agency for Education at the latest upon start.
- Be able to demonstrate, through documentation, at least four years of well-regarded work with teaching within the school system (unlicensed service, work at leisure-time centers, or part-time work can be counted).
- Have shown a particularly good ability to improve students' academic results.
- Have a strong interest in developing teaching.
- Have been assessed by the employer as particularly qualified for teaching and teaching-related tasks.
Meritorious: Leadership training such as "Leading for the Development of Teachers' Leadership" (LULL) or other training in classroom leadership.
