ALEF is seeking a competent employee for work in communication, advocacy, fundraising, and project management

For more than 16 years, ALEF (Adult Learning and Empowerment Facilitators) has contributed to increased self-empowerment, adult education, and literacy in mother tongues for tens of thousands of young and adults lacking basic reading, writing, and math skills in African countries. Our success is built on our unique ALEF method, an efficient organization, and competent local partner organizations.

ALEF is a non-profit association that is religiously and politically independent. The majority of our funding comes from Sida (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) and private foundations, as well as private donors and companies. Our target group consists of the world's 739 million young and adult illiterate individuals who currently lack basic knowledge in reading, writing, and mathematics. By developing these skills, they can actively drive change in their local communities, which is how we create hope for the future.

Our workplace is characterized by openness, collaboration, engagement, creativity, care, and responsibility. We are currently looking for you, a versatile and engaged employee who wants to drive our communication, lead our advocacy work, manage our fundraising efforts, secure funding through well-written applications, and be part of managing projects and partnerships. In this role, you will combine strategic communication and advocacy with fundraising and project management to create real change.

About the role:

As an employee, you will work broadly with the organization's external activities while actively working on applications and project follow-up. This is intended to be a full-time position where your main areas of responsibility include:

  • Communication & Advocacy: Develop and run campaigns, write articles and press releases, update the website and social media, and engage in dialogue with decision-makers and other key actors. Develop ALEF as an association by creating participation and engagement among ALEF's members and donors.
  • Fundraising & Applications: Lead fundraising from the general public and apply for funding from foundations, companies, authorities, philanthropists, estates, and funds. You are responsible for writing persuasive applications and building long-term relationships with funders.
  • Project Management: Manage approved projects. This includes everything from administrative support and budget monitoring to writing activity reports.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who is communicative, persuasive, and has a strong commitment to society. To succeed in this role, we believe you have:

  • Relevant higher education or equivalent (e.g., in communication, journalism, international development studies, or other social science education). Having completed fundraising training through Giva Sverige is also considered an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills in both speech and writing (fluent in Swedish and English, and preferably also in French).
  • Good experience in conducting advocacy work at the policy level.
  • Good knowledge of marketing and branding.
  • Ability to independently drive processes, build networks, and engage others.
  • Documented experience in successfully writing applications and working with fundraising from the public, companies, and foundations.
  • Experience in project administration with a good understanding of budgeting and monitoring within the framework of international development cooperation.
  • Experience from working within non-profit organizations.
  • Understanding of work with adult education and strengthening people's self-empowerment.

What we offer

  • Meaningful and developing work with great opportunities to make an impact.
  • A dynamic work environment with engaged colleagues and an active board.
  • Competitive salary, wellness allowance, and opportunities for professional development.
  • A 75% position with the possibility of increasing to 100%.
  • Opportunities for remote work.
  • An inviting office environment at Bollstanäsvägen 3 in Sollentuna Municipality.

Application

Does this sound like your next challenge? Send your CV and a cover letter explaining why you are a good fit for the role.

  • Last day for applications: June 14, 2026
  • Start date: As agreed
  • Send application to: [email protected]
