As a unified faculty for art and learning, we are an independent, visionary, and critical force in the necessary work of creating a more sustainable and open society.

Do you want to help shape the future of sustainable interior production?

In the Interreg project From Forest to Chair, you will lead exploratory processes together with companies that want to transition and create truly circular solutions. We are looking for you who are passionate about innovation, wood, and sustainable development – and who want to make a concrete difference in a changing industry.

From Forest to Chair is a cross-border Interreg project between Sweden and Norway that accelerates the transition towards a more sustainable wood-based interior industry. We work together along the entire value chain – from raw materials and production to design, management, reuse, and circular business models – to create real and long-term change.

HDK-Valand is now seeking an engaged and driven project manager who will work as a process leader (50% position) with responsibility for the production work packages. The role is central to the project and involves leading exploratory and innovation-driven activities for small and medium-sized enterprises within wood-based interior production.

The position is based at Campus Steneby in Dals Långed, but some working time may be spent at HDK-Valand's premises in Gothenburg. The activities are expected to be carried out both digitally and on-site.

Job Description

The project From Forest to Chair runs from August 2025 to December 2027 and is based on HDK-Valand's pedagogy where theory and practice meet in an iterative process: do – reflect – do again. The goal is for actors in the industry to develop circular and resource-efficient working methods, strengthen their own ability to sustainable transition, and find new future-oriented solutions.

The work in the project is organized into thematic packages that together cover the entire value chain. As a process leader, you are part of a team with other process leaders, project managers, and expert resources.

The Production work packages target companies that manufacture interior products – from small workshops to medium-sized producers – and how they can become more circular and sustainable. Aspects such as production processes, materials, material handling, and technology are analyzed in theory and practice to then be developed in a more circular and sustainable direction. This may concern how efficient the moments are, whether residual streams or waste occur, or if the same results can be achieved through other approaches and techniques.

Analysis and development take place in both theory and practice, where practical exploration is at the center of the work, which is conducted according to the design-oriented methodology that runs through the entire project.

The activities can be both on-site and digital, depending on what suits the participants and content.

Available premises are those that HDK-Valand has at its disposal for its operations in Gothenburg and in Dals Långed.

Practical sessions and workshops should primarily be held at Open Wood on Campus Steneby in Dals Långed, but can also be held in Gothenburg if necessary for participants' ability to attend the activity. Theoretical sessions and meetings can be held either at Campus Steneby in Dals Långed or at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg.

Employment

  • Employment type: Fixed-term employment until 2027-12-31
  • Scope: 50% of full-time
  • Location: The position is based in Dals Långed and the work requires regular physical presence at Campus Steneby
  • Start date: August 1, 2026, or by agreement
