Driven by relationship building and making a difference for young people?

Do you want a meaningful and developmental job where the focus is on making a difference for young people? Then we are looking for you!

The Support and Intervention Youth unit currently consists of 15 employees and is located under the Social Services Office. The work is organized into five teams: Youth Guidance, School Social Support Team, BC-ung, Holiday Internship, and SSPF. Strängnäs Municipality is investing in preventive, safety-building, outreach, and guidance work to meet young people at risk of becoming vulnerable.

About the Position

As a Youth Guide, you work closely with young people who need support. You will serve as a vital link between individuals in need of support and the interventions available to them. As a Youth Guide, you will encounter young people in vastly different life situations with varying needs.

Now you have the opportunity to make a difference! We are looking for two people for a one-year temporary position, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

The role involves creating trusting relationships, both with young people and with relatives and other professional actors. You will inform about available resources and support measures and guide young people in their decisions. The role also includes monitoring and developing individual support plans to ensure their needs are met. You keep careful notes (journal) on conversations and interventions, etc., and report on progress and challenges. Participation and gradual movement towards set goals must be followed and evaluated. Various forms of structured conversations are also part of the assignment to support the young person in gradually moving towards set goals.

You work together with other professionals, such as from the Social Services Office, schools, police, leisure activities, and healthcare, to create a tight and intensive holistic support for the client. You also have the task of involving the network around the young person to the extent that it is beneficial.

Duties include among other things:

  • Outreach work in the field
  • Supportive and guiding conversations
  • Motivational interviewing and manual-guided conversations
  • Support in contact with other actors and authorities
  • Social skills training and moral-enhancing work
  • Collaboration with actors important for the client's development and health, e.g., their own network
  • Administrative tasks such as case recording
  • Prevention work in classes and individually

In addition to individual cases, you will also be part of the unit's prevention work, where you will, among other things, hold MVP lessons in classes and other preventive measures at the individual and group level.

The work is scheduled at irregular times (day/evening/weekend) according to a schedule. At the unit, we work in different roles towards common goals, and it is a requirement to contribute to the whole and be helpful to other colleagues.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

  • Post-secondary education of at least 400 YH credits or 180 hp in treatment pedagogy, social pedagogy, social work, behavioral science, or other relevant education.
  • At least two years of work experience in social work with young people.
  • Good knowledge of the Social Services Act.
  • Documented experience of individual collaboration.
  • Fluent Swedish in speech and writing.
  • Category B driver's license.

Meritorious Experience

  • Work with outpatient interventions or case management for persons with substance abuse issues, criminality, or mental illness.
  • PFS - collaboration for safety.
  • Methodological knowledge in MI (Motivational Interviewing), KSL (Criminality as a Lifestyle) or relapse prevention, MVP, parental support, e.g., ABC, FFT, or KOMET.
  • Savery risk assessment.
  • Mediation.

Personal Suitability

You will be a role model for our young people, and therefore great importance is placed on personal suitability. We are looking for you who are sensitive and empathetic, with a good ability to meet others in a respectful, professional, and low-affective manner. You easily put yourself in others' perspectives and create safety in your relationships. You are solution-focused and tackle challenges with analytical thinking and a clear drive to find constructive ways forward. Furthermore, you are organized and structured in your work approach, which allows you to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without losing sight of the big picture.

By being interested, listening, and creating understanding for others, you work for a respectful work climate. You understand the common mission, act based on it, and contribute to the whole. Furthermore, you are passionate about the mission, loyal, and take responsibility for the work to be done. We want you to share the municipality's values: development, respect, openness, and clarity. Our wish is a multicultural and gender-equal workplace.

For work with children and young people as this position entails, an extract from the police's criminal record register must be presented before employment.

Selection and interviews take place continuously, so we warmly welcome your application today!

Employment Type: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 6 months or longer.

Strängnäs Municipality applies smoke-free working hours to create a healthy working environment for all employees, colleagues, and users.
