Specialist Nurse in Intensive Care (CIVA) – Make a Difference in Critical Moments
At Anesthesia, Surgery, and Intensive Care, we care for patients and families facing pivotal moments. For some, we are the last hope. For others, we create an opportunity for a better life. Whether you work in the sterile technology department, in one of our flying units, on the intensive care unit, or in surgery, you play a crucial role in critical moments. Apply now to become part of our team.
Do you want to work where your skills make a real difference – every day?
At the Central Intensive Care Unit (CIVA), you will meet patients and their loved ones during life's most critical moments. For some, we are the last hope; for others, it is the beginning of the road back. This is demanding work, but it is also deeply rewarding.
Here, you become part of a unit where advanced intensive care is combined with a strong sense of teamwork, continuous learning, and the opportunity to contribute across the entire care chain.
Our Operations
At CIVA, we treat approximately 850–900 patients annually who suffer from failure of vital functions. We are responsible for intensive care in Uppsala County and serve as a regional and national resource for highly specialized care. Our patients often have complex conditions such as severe infections, trauma, cardiac arrest, and advanced postoperative complications.
Through close collaboration with other intensive care units, we also treat patients with burns, neurology, and thoracic diseases.
The work is varied and fast-paced, characterized by rapid adjustments and strong teamwork.
Your Role
As a Specialist Nurse in Intensive Care at CIVA, your primary responsibility is to care for our inpatients with failure of vital functions. You work in a person-centered manner within a team consisting of assistant nurses, intensive care physicians, and physiotherapists, delivering advanced intensive care tailored to each patient's needs.
In addition, you participate in CIVA's hospital-wide assignments. Within the Adult Emergency Response Team, you may serve as the responsible nurse and, together with intensive care physicians, participate in acute interventions across the hospital, where quick decision-making and good collaboration are crucial.
You also participate in the Post-Intensive Care Group (PIG), where we follow up with patients after discharge from the ICU. You plan and coordinate follow-up together with the ward and other professions, contributing to continuity, security, and a better understanding of the intensive care period.
This autumn, we are launching a pilot program with a Mobile Intensive Care Group (MIG). Together with intensive care physicians, you will proactively provide early interventions for patients deteriorating on regular wards, focusing on preventing serious conditions and strengthening patient safety.
Qualifications and Competence
We are looking for you who are a registered nurse with a Specialist Nurse degree in Intensive Care. You may be new to the role or have extensive experience.
You work systematically even at a high pace, have good collaboration skills, and feel confident in your professional role. You have a person-centered approach and the ability to make decisions in complex situations. Personal suitability is highly valued.
What We Offer
Here, you will have a developing and meaningful workday in a highly specialized environment. We offer permanent employment with a rotation of days, evenings, and nights in a schedule model that promotes recovery.
You will receive an individually adapted introduction with support from unit educators, as well as continuous competence development through education and reflection in daily practice.
The work offers you the opportunity to develop both in advanced intensive care and through our hospital-wide assignments. You become part of an experienced and supportive team where we share responsibility – with us, you are never alone.
We have strong ties to research and education in collaboration with Uppsala University and an established post-ICU clinic. Our facilities are adapted for a good work environment with ergonomic lighting and sound. You are offered a wellness allowance of up to 3,000 SEK and other benefits via Region Uppsala.
