About the job

As a licensed veterinarian at UDS, you will work in a varied daily routine within a 24/7 operation at Sweden's only university veterinary hospital.

Since SLU is the only educational institution for animal health personnel, you will be involved in the education of future veterinarians and veterinary nurses.

The role includes working evenings, nights, and weekends. Since March 2026, the operation has returned to 24/7 hours following a period of limited opening times.

Your background

You are a licensed veterinarian with the right to practice veterinary medicine in Sweden. You have several years of clinical experience as a small animal veterinarian. It is an advantage if you are an independent emergency veterinarian and feel confident with medical assessments and emergency surgery. Similarly, if you have Step 1 competence in canine and feline diseases or equivalent.

Good knowledge of English and/or a Scandinavian language is required.

About us

The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for basic education, research, and doctoral education in anesthesiology, imaging, animal nursing, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine, and reproduction. Within all subjects, our operations cover all animal species.

At SLU University Veterinary Hospital (UDS), education, research, and advanced veterinary care go hand in hand. We educate tomorrow's veterinarians and veterinary nurses and provide first-class care to companion animals, performance animals, and production animals. We also disseminate knowledge to the public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results, we are developing the veterinary care of the future.

Under one roof, medical care is offered for horses, dogs, cats, and other small animals. In addition to modern, operation-adapted facilities, we have access to advanced imaging and a veterinary medical specialist laboratory. The UDS operation also includes an ambulatory unit that visits stables and farms to examine and treat horses and farm animals.
