University Lecturer in Political Science at University West!

The Department of Economics and IT is now welcoming new colleagues to an environment where new programs, courses, research, and academic contexts are being developed. The department consists of three growing research and education clusters within the social sciences: Politics and Society, Economics, and Informatics and Media. These clusters are under development, and new employees will have excellent opportunities to shape the content of the clusters and leave their mark on these academic environments. This position is organizationally placed within the Division of Politics, Law, and Statistics.

The Politics and Society cluster conducts research and education in political science, law, statistics, work-integrated learning, sustainability, and security studies. Research topics include diplomacy, urban planning, forestry issues, environmental ethics, security and warfare, democracy, political parties, citizenship, international norms, and decision-making. The division currently offers a three-year international undergraduate program in Political Science, International Affairs, with specializations in security and sustainability, as well as an international master's program in work-integrated learning with a focus on politics and a master's program in work-integrated learning with a focus on sustainable development. Respons:

We are looking for an engaged colleague in political science. The main responsibilities consist of research and teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels. The teaching for the division's programs is conducted in English. However, it is expected that you are willing to acquire Swedish language skills over time.

As a University Lecturer in Political Science, you are expected, based on your merits and competence, to contribute to the academic environment building, primarily within the Politics and Society cluster. In terms of research, this is done, for example, through research applications, publications in international journals, mentoring junior researchers, and seminar activities. Regarding education, in addition to teaching and related tasks, you are also expected, based on competence and experience, to take on pedagogical leadership to develop courses, programs, and teaching teams.

There are good opportunities to find roles and assignments at the division, department, and university levels, with the possibility of contributing to management, quality, and development work to create conditions for high-quality research-based education and education-based research. The department offers an open and collaborative environment with strong links to business, the public sector, and international research networks.

In addition to teaching and research, administrative tasks are also included.

Qualifications for the position of University Lecturer:

• Documented pedagogical skill (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Act). Applicants who lack pedagogical merits from an academic environment must have competence equivalent to the university's qualification requirements, although this may have been achieved in a way other than within an academic environment.
• Completed higher education pedagogical education of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If higher education pedagogical education is missing, employment can still take place provided that the employee completes the education during the first two years of employment.
• Doctoral degree in Political Science or equivalent scientific competence or another professional skill that is of significance with regard to the subject content of the employment and the tasks included in the employment (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Act).

Additionally, for this position, the following are required:

• Excellent ability to conduct high-quality teaching, primarily within political science.
• Proven ability to participate in or build an academic environment through, for example, obtained external funding, publications in international journals, and building research environments in general. Assessment of skill is made with regard to the level of merit, the publication tradition of the subject area, and the time elapsed since the defense.
• Excellent or proven ability to participate in or build an academic environment through pedagogical leadership, such as development work at the course or program level, leading teaching teams, and similar groups. Assessment of skill is placed in relation to the level of merit and the time elapsed since the defense.
• Documented ability to express oneself well in English, both orally and in writing.
• Excellent collaborative skills with both colleagues and students and other parties.

For this appointment, pedagogical skill and scientific skill shall be weighted equally and placed first. Collaborative and managerial skill shall be weighted equally and placed second. Other:

The employment is permanent. A six-month probationary period applies.
