Högskolan Väst is seeking a University Lecturer in Sustainability!

The Department of Economics and IT is now welcoming new employees to an environment where new programs, courses, research, and academic contexts are being established. The department consists of three growing research and education clusters within the social sciences: Politics and Society, Economics, and Informatics and Media. The clusters are under construction, and new employees will have excellent opportunities to shape the content of the clusters and leave their mark on these academic environments. This position will be organizationally placed at the Division of Politics, Law, and Statistics.

The Politics and Society cluster conducts research and education within political science, law, statistics, work-integrated learning, sustainability, and security studies. This includes, for example, research on diplomacy, urban planning, forestry issues, environmental ethics, security and warfare, democracy, political parties, citizenship, international norms, and decision-making. At the division, there is currently a three-year international bachelor's program in political science, International Affairs, with specializations in security and sustainability, as well as an international master's program in work-integrated learning with a focus on politics and a master's program in work-integrated learning with a focus on sustainable development. Respons:

We are looking for a colleague from the humanities or social sciences with competence in the field of sustainability. The position primarily involves research and teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels. The teaching at the division's programs is conducted in English. However, it is expected that you are willing to acquire Swedish language skills over time.

As a University Lecturer in Sustainability, you are expected to contribute to the academic environment building, primarily in the Politics and Society cluster, based on your merits and competence. In terms of research, this is done, for example, through research applications, publications in international journals, mentoring junior researchers, and seminar activities. In terms of education, in addition to teaching and related tasks, you will also, based on competence and experience, be expected to take on pedagogical leadership to develop courses, programs, and teaching teams.

There are good opportunities to find roles and assignments at the division, department, and university levels, with the possibility of contributing to management, quality, and development work to create conditions for high-quality research-based education and education-based research. The department offers an open and collaborative environment with strong connections to business, the public sector, and international research networks.

In addition to teaching and research, administrative tasks are also included.

Qualification requirements for the position of University Lecturer:

• Documented pedagogical skill (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Act). Applicants who lack pedagogical merits from an academic environment must have competence equivalent to the university's qualification requirements, although this may have been achieved in a manner other than within the academic environment.
• Completed higher education pedagogical education of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If higher education pedagogical education is lacking, employment may still take place on the condition that the employee completes the education during the first two years of employment.
• Completed doctoral degree in humanities or social sciences or equivalent scientific competence or other professional skill that is significant with regard to the subject content of the position and the tasks to be included in the position (Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Act).

For this position, the following is also required:

• Excellent ability to conduct high-quality teaching, primarily within the field of sustainability.
• Documented ability to participate in or build an academic environment through, for example, obtained external funding, publications in international journals, and building research environments in general. Assessment of skill is placed in relation to the level of merit, the publication traditions of the subject area, and the time elapsed since the doctoral degree.
• Excellent or documented ability to participate in or build an academic environment through pedagogical leadership, such as, for example, development work at the course or program level, leading teaching teams, and similar groups. Assessment of skill is made with regard to the level of merit and the time elapsed since the doctoral degree.
• Documented ability to express oneself in English, both orally and in writing.
• Excellent collaborative skills with both colleagues and students and other parties.
