Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, Gothenburg University contributes to a better future.

About the Research and Innovation Office

The Research and Innovation Office is a unit within the Shared Administration, comprising around thirty employees organized into four areas of responsibility: research support, business law, management support, and innovation and utilization.

Our vision is to deliver world-class research support and to be a role model and source of inspiration for other support functions. Our mission is to strengthen the conditions for excellent and socially relevant research. We do this by providing strategic and operational support to researchers and management functions in matters concerning research and utilization.

At the Research and Innovation Office, there is a support structure for research data organized under management support. We are now strengthening this work further by developing long-term and integrated system support for managing research data. We are therefore looking for a colleague who wants to contribute to developing support within research data and system support.

About the role

In this role, you will work closely with research and contribute to the handling, sharing, and reuse of research data in ways that enable new knowledge and societal benefit. The work on developing support for research data takes place in an environment where we primarily use open source-based solutions, giving you excellent opportunities to understand, influence, and further develop the systems in depth.

The role combines operational support for researchers in handling research data with more technical and development-oriented work.

We are looking for a Research Data Advisor responsible for the technical administration and further development of system support for research data management, including the Data Stewardship Wizard (DSW).

You will work within the management support group and collaborate with coordinators for research support in a role where you complement each other. You will also work together with colleagues in law, IT, and other support functions, acting as a link between the organization's needs and technical solutions.

You are expected to contribute both operationally and strategically to the development of the university's work with research data management.

The role involves significant independent responsibility and offers good opportunities to work both technically and close to operations, developing in a direction where you combine overall support within research data with system administration.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, among other things:

  • providing advice and support to researchers on research data management issues
  • contributing to the development of methods and routines for research data management
  • administering and further developing DSW and other digital services for research data management
  • producing, analyzing, and visualizing data from, among other sources, DSW
  • identifying and translating organizational needs into requirements for systems and methods
  • collaborating with IT and other functions regarding development, integrations, and improvements
  • representing research data support in internal and external networks
  • conducting training in Swedish and English

Qualifications

  • experience with research data management and knowledge of FAIR principles
  • good technical understanding and experience with programming, system administration, or system development, e.g., in Python, JavaScript/Node.js, or similar
  • relevant educational background or equivalent experience
  • experience with or interest in container-based environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or similar)
  • experience working with or administering digital tools or system support
  • ability to translate operational needs into requirements for technical solutions
  • good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English

It is meritorious if you have:

  • experience working with REST APIs, integrations, web development, data visualization, or persistent identifiers (PID)
  • understanding of research conditions as well as laws and regulations related to research data
  • experience with research ethics, information security, or public sector operations

Personal qualities

To succeed in the role, you need to be structured, solution-oriented, and able to drive work forward. You thrive in a role where you combine advisory work with the development of methods and systems, and find it easy to collaborate with different types of competencies.

The outward-facing nature of the role requires good pedagogical skills, clarity, and a professional approach. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

We welcome applicants with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

The employment is a permanent position, 100%, located at the Research and Innovation Office. Probation may apply. Start date by agreement.
