Vascular Surgery

Subject Description

Vascular surgery with a focus on clinical studies and intervention. In collaboration with other researchers at the department, promote translational studies in the field of cardiometabolic diseases.

Duties

The duties of the position include conducting long-term research in the subject area at a nationally and internationally competitive level. Furthermore, the appointee should actively seek national and/or international external research grants.

The duties include teaching, course responsibility, and examination in courses at, primarily, undergraduate and advanced levels. Furthermore, it includes supervision of students and doctoral candidates at all educational levels. The duties also include developing and coordinating learning objectives, learning activities, pedagogical methods, examination forms, and assessment criteria.

The appointee shall also perform other duties normally associated with a professorship, such as academic leadership with administrative tasks and holding internal and external trust positions. The position also includes collaboration with the surrounding society.

The clinical service will be adapted to the operation's needs regarding the intended appointee's competence and experience.

Qualifications

Qualifications for employment as a teacher are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.

According to the Higher Education Act, a combined appointment can only be held by someone who meets the qualification requirements for both appointments.

Eligible for appointment as a professor is one who has demonstrated scientific and pedagogical proficiency. Medical license and specialist competence in vascular surgery are requirements for the position.

The appointment is combined with an appointment as a senior consultant physician at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, and therefore it is required that one, according to the National Board of Health and Welfare, has knowledge in Swedish, Danish, or Norwegian necessary for the profession to obtain a Swedish medical license.

Evaluation Criteria

Evaluation criteria for appointment as a professor are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.

In the assessment, scientific proficiency and pedagogical proficiency will be weighted equally and placed first. Secondarily, clinical proficiency is weighted. Administrative proficiency and ability to collaborate and cooperate will also be considered in the assessment.

In the assessment of scientific proficiency, special weight shall be attached to the ability to conduct research in the subject area. Special weight is also placed on peer-reviewed publications in international journals where scientific quality is prioritized over the quantity of production. The applicant must have shown proficiency in initiating, planning, leading, and developing research. The applicant must also show documented ability to obtain external research grants in competition. Ability to build international and national collaboration networks is particularly meritorious.

In assessing pedagogical proficiency, special weight will be placed on good ability to supervise, teach, and examine in education at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, as well as other pedagogical activities within the subject area. In the appointment, experience in educational planning and course responsibility will also be given weight. The proficiency must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical activity.

In assessing clinical proficiency, special weight will be given to documented experience of clinical work in the subject area as well as the ability to develop clinical work and implement research in the clinic. Clinical competence that can be applied in teaching situations is particularly meritorious.

For administrative proficiency, experience of clinical and academic leadership as well as ability to collaborate and cooperate is meritorious. The applicants' personal qualities in being able to collaborate internally and externally to perform the described duties will be considered in the assessment of suitability for the position.

Employment

Permanent employment, with full-time extent (100%) with placement currently at the Department of Medicine. Commencement according to agreement.
