About the Workplace

Position: Waste Engineer

Location: The Municipal House, Henån

You will be part of the Waste Unit, where we work as a team and support each other in our daily tasks. Here you will be offered an stimulating and strategically important assignment with close proximity to both operations and decision-making.

The waste sector is in an intense phase of development, driven by new legislation, increased requirements for property-based collection, and high expectations regarding quality, sustainability, and service to residents.

Orust Municipality is also facing a comprehensive assignment where we are preparing to manage waste collection in-house.

As a Waste Engineer, you will play a central role in developing and monitoring the municipality's waste operations. You will work both strategically and operationally, focusing on environment, quality, and regulatory compliance. We are embarking on an exciting development journey to further develop the Månsemyr Recycling Centre. Here, we actively work on improving the customer experience and optimizing flows. As a Waste Engineer with us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to this work and help shape the future Recycling Centre on Orust.

Your Responsibilities

  • Participate in systematic environmental work by monitoring legal requirements, maintaining our self-control programs, environmental controls, and permits.
  • Annual environmental reports and recurring statistical reporting and follow-up.
  • Conduct investigations and prepare official letters and statements.
  • Planning and gathering of material for procurement as well as follow-up of existing contracts.
  • Contact with authorities.

You will be an important part of operation-related projects and development work within the waste sector.

About You

Are you a structured and solution-oriented person with technical understanding? Do you want to contribute to a sustainable future and work in an industry where environment and resource efficiency are in focus? Then this might be the right role for you!

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in environmental and waste issues and preferably broad experience in the field. You have a relevant university degree and/or many years of working life experience which we assess as equivalent.

To thrive in the role, you have good collaboration skills, are flexible, and responsible.

You have:

  • Post-secondary education in environment, technology, or urban planning and/or many years of working life experience which we assess as equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience working in waste operations or a related area.
  • At least two years of experience working with authority requirements and reporting.
  • Valid driver's license (Category B).
  • Responsible, safety-conscious, and good collaboration skills.

Meritorious experience:

  • Experience working within municipal waste operations.
  • Knowledge of the Environmental Code and the Waste Ordinance.
  • Experience with procurement (LOU) and contract follow-up.
