About the Ward

The Surgical Clinic is a county-wide clinic with both planned and acute surgical operations around the clock. On Ward 34, we work with gastrointestinal surgery as well as ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery. We have 20 care beds distributed across four modules and offer both acute and planned care.

Here you will meet patients with varying needs – from abdominal pain to cancer diagnoses – and get to work with both pre- and postoperative nursing. The length of stay is usually 3–5 days, which provides a high flow and great variation in tasks.

Your Role as a Nurse

Working as a nurse on Ward 34 means being part of an engaged and knowledgeable team where you combine advanced nursing techniques with close patient care. You meet patients with surgical needs, both planned and acute, and work with everything from pain relief and mobilization to fluid balance and palliative care. No day is the same, and you have the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally in an environment where support, collaboration, and learning are central.

Responsibilities

As a nurse with us, you will have a varied and stimulating job where you:

• Plan and coordinate care together with doctors and assistant nurses
• Perform advanced nursing techniques such as peripheral IVs, catheters, central lines, drips, and antibiotic treatment
• Are responsible for fluid balance, pain relief, and mobilization
• Communicate with relatives and contribute to the patient's sense of security
• Meet patients undergoing planned or acute surgeries, as well as patients in the end of life
• Work in a team with assistant nurses and contribute to a good work climate
• We place great emphasis on listening to patients, both what they say and what their body shows, for example via NEWS. You use conversations, observations, and medical data to assess, support, and provide the right care at the right time.

Development and Support

You will have the opportunity to develop your competence in surgery and nursing techniques, and we appreciate that you have drive and curiosity. What you cannot do today, you will learn here. We offer a secure and developmental start. As a new graduate, you can participate in our mentor group for nurses and assistant nurses with less than two years of experience. The introduction is workplace-oriented and adapted to your background. For newly graduated nurses, it is approximately 8 weeks long.

For those who want to contribute to developing care, there are good opportunities to influence. You can contribute ideas, take responsibility for improvement areas, and be involved in the development work on the ward. Here you get to help shape the future of surgical care.

We always have a specialist nurse in surgery on duty – a secure and experienced colleague who serves as an important support for new employees and contributes to competence development in the team. Every week, lectures are held by doctors related to our patient group, and you have access to 10 hours of education in palliative care.

Qualifications and Merits

• Are a licensed nurse

• Have good ability or want to learn to prioritize based on patient needs

Meritorious experience includes:

• Experience in surgical care, nursing techniques, or palliative care
• Knowledge in handling peripheral IVs, catheters, central lines, and fluid balance
• Experience working with cancer patients or postoperative care
