Infectious Diseases Department

We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic moments, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!

Our Operations

At the Infectious Diseases department, we treat adult patients with severe infections, communicable diseases, tropical medicine conditions, and immunodeficiency disorders. Infectious diseases have an interesting aspect in that we can follow developments through human history and their global connection, meeting patients of all ages and life stages. We are an acute care ward where all patients arrive via the emergency department or the infectious disease clinic. Infectious disease care often involves solving puzzles as a team from a person-centered perspective. See the film about our work in infectious diseases here – Infection - Detective Work with Global Connections | Akademiska (https://www.akademiska.se/for-vardgivare/verksamhetsomraden/infektion/infektion---ett-detektivarbete-med-global-anknytning/)

The Infectious Diseases department is facing an exciting phase of development where we are looking for more dedicated employees ready to think differently. At the beginning of the year, we introduced changes on the ward, such as streamlining rounds, daily management, and healthier working hours as part of creating an even better work environment. We work in teams around the patient, and there are several functions on the ward that support patient care. The ward includes nursing assistants, nurses, doctors, clinical pharmacists, ward pharmacists, dietitians, kitchen staff, counselors, medical secretaries, receptionists, staffing assistants, education nurses, lead nursing assistants, lead nurses, and quality assurance nurses. These professions can provide relief with tasks such as preparing antibiotics, medication issues, ADL assessments, discharge planning, and consultation and sounding board for complex nursing assessments.

Your Role

As a nurse in the infectious diseases department, you are responsible for the care of patients with varying monitoring needs, together with your nursing assistants. Our patients have fluctuating care needs, which provides a varying work pace with sometimes rapid changes in patients' conditions. No day here is like the other. As a nurse, you are responsible for leading and distributing the work within the team, and together with your colleagues, you are responsible for a good work environment. We have close cooperation with our doctors who are available on the ward throughout the day.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse. You can be completely new to the profession or have worked as a nurse for a longer period. We see you as an important person in our operations where we value a positive work climate where all employees thrive and feel secure. If you are curious, proactive, and cooperative, this job is perfect for you!

What We Offer

We offer a permanent full-time position, with start date according to agreement. Probation may apply. Working hours are scheduled for day, evening, night, and weekends according to agreement.

  • A well-structured 5-week introduction consisting of both clinical and theoretical sessions designed individually with our education nurses
  • Healthy scheduling with a focus on recovery. For example, the day shift starts at 07:30 in the morning and the evening shift ends at 21:30
