We are looking for a Laboratory Engineer for a permanent position at the Department of Science and Technology.
Background
Örebro University and the Department of Science and Technology offer a Laboratory Engineer position with a focus on visualization and interaction. The engineer will be part of the AI and robotics collaboration team and work closely with the research within the research group Machine Perception and Interaction.
The position is located at the Department of Science and Technology, a unit comprising over 70 researchers and doctoral students working on problems within artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, and human-machine interaction.
Responsibilities
Visual Lab is a laboratory at Örebro University. We offer a 36-meter wide immersive projection with a 270-degree field of view, as well as a range of advanced cameras, lights, sensors, and tracking devices. Equipped with the most powerful graphics workstations, our lab aims to create immersive and interactive visualizations for research and education. We work with data and models from our research projects, including point clouds and 3D scans of underground and underwater environments, as well as models and animations of vehicles and robots.
We are now seeking a Laboratory Engineer to support AI and robotics research related to various visualization projects where researchers, companies, and the public sector collaborate.
You will primarily work with visualization tools. The tasks will consist of system design, programming, system testing, and more, all in close collaboration with researchers and external actors in an international environment. Maintenance of instruments and equipment is also included in the responsibilities. Depending on interest and competence, other tasks may also be added.
In the role, you will work with and develop competence in:
- Programming and scripting, primarily in Python, as well as elements of C#, C++, and Bash
- Development of 3D environments in platforms such as Unreal Engine and Unity (technical 3D graphics)
- Virtual, augmented, and mixed reality
- Interaction and user interfaces (UI)
- Use of tools for containerization and runtime environments, such as Apptainer
- Basic management of audio systems, such as mixing consoles, audio routing, and features like voice control.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have:
- A strong interest and good practical experience in programming
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, media technology, or equivalent experience
- Good programming skills (C#, C++, or Python is an advantage)
- Good communication skills and very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
- Experience with scripting and technical workflows in Linux and Windows environments.
Meritorious qualifications include:
- Experience with UI development or interaction design
- Experience with audio technology, AV systems, or voice control
- Experience with container-based environments (e.g., Apptainer)
- Experience with visualization environments for research, simulation, or industrial applications.
