We are looking for a Laboratory Engineer for a permanent position at the Department of Science and Technology.

Background

Are you interested in a varied role where you work with a range of advanced technologies? Örebro University and the Department of Science and Technology are seeking a Laboratory Engineer in AI to support our research in computer science.

The position is located within the Computer Science unit, which comprises over 70 researchers and doctoral students working on problems within artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, and human-computer interaction.

Responsibilities

At Örebro University, there are several research environments focused on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics. Much of the research is applied and conducted in collaboration with industry, such as Epiroc, SAAB, and Volvo, and with the public sector, such as Örebro County Airport and Region Örebro County. We use advanced equipment in our research, including many different types of autonomous robots and vehicles, cameras, laser scanners, and virtual reality technology. Our projects also involve significant software development with machine learning and the use of external software. The Laboratory Engineer's main task is to support researchers in managing all this equipment and software. Support for equipment used in teaching on our data technology engineering programs is also included.

The Laboratory Engineer will:

  • Prepare equipment for demonstrations during visits
  • Develop software with a focus on AI methods
  • Order, maintain, modify, and construct technical equipment
  • Maintain order in the research facilities
  • Collaborate with the university's IT department.

Qualifications

You must have a solid technical education (preferably university degree or civil engineer) in data technology, computer science, or equivalent. You should have documented experience working practically with data and electrical engineering, both hardware and software, in a similar role. Experience working with mechanical and mechatronic systems, as well as programming machine learning algorithms with Python, is meritorious.

You should be responsible, independent, and have good collaboration and problem-solving skills. You should be quick to learn new things, as you will work with many different types of equipment and new equipment is constantly being added.

You need to have good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
