to apply for the job

Based on upcoming activity requirements and our ambition to work even more with follow-ups on clients' path to self-sufficiency, we are now expanding our unit with an additional social worker.

No two days are alike. Some days you work with major life issues, other days with the small steps that make a big difference. In your work, you will meet a diverse and broad target group, where you have the opportunity to adapt and develop your approach based on the person you meet. The current position also includes some duties regarding estate administration, a task shared with another colleague, which creates further opportunities for challenges and competence development.

We are looking for a colleague who is holistic in their approach, has a genuine commitment to people in vulnerable situations, and highly values job satisfaction!

Job Responsibilities

The current position is organized within our ongoing caseload group. In this group, you work with long-term cases requiring income support. You build relationships for change work and have the privilege of following individuals all the way to the final goal of self-sufficiency. The work in the ongoing group is described as a combination of curative work with variation in the form of case processing moments.

In your work, you will collaborate closely with both internal (e.g., SFI, other units within the business area) and external actors (e.g., the Swedish Public Employment Service, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, the Region) to create the best possible support for the individual. In our municipality, there is a tight and established cooperation with the municipal labor market unit, which is a major success factor and will be crucial for us to succeed in meeting the legislative requirements in upcoming activity requirements. The cooperation contributes to increased opportunities for you as a social worker to individualize the planning towards self-sufficiency, which yields results and also makes the work more enjoyable.

The work is varied, with part of it involving client-facing work through conversations and follow-ups, and the other part involving the processing of financial assistance according to the Social Services Act. You have the opportunity to plan your working days largely on your own.

A part of the position involves estate administration, which is estimated to comprise about 25%. The tasks regarding estate administration are shared with another colleague in the ongoing group. In this part, there are recurring opportunities for national-level education, participation in national and local forums, participation in municipal estate days, as well as recurring internal meetings together with the unit manager and the first social worker for support in execution. Estate administration is an exciting part, where ethical dilemmas are mixed with dealing with grieving relatives.

Requirements for the Position

  • Social work degree or other relevant education at bachelor's level that includes, or where you have studied, social law.
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.

Meritorious for the Position:

  • Experience working with people in need of support or who are in a vulnerable situation.
  • Good knowledge of the regulations and structures of state and public operations.
  • Experience in processing applications for estate notification and/or provisional estate administration.

Personal Qualities

Your personal qualities are the primary and most important resource in daily work.

To fit the position, you need to be:

  • Clear: communicating in a clear manner, ensuring that messages reach their destination and that expectations are clear for all involved parties.
  • Structured: organizing and planning the work in a way that ensures good quality in case processing and that processing times are followed.
  • Relationship-building: an important part of your work is building trusting and supportive relationships. By creating an open and respectful dialogue, you can understand individual needs and contribute to the right support that leads to self-sufficiency and better quality of life.
  • Holistic: the ability to see the entire need of the client as well as the surrounding circumstances that may affect their situation.
  • Decision-making: the ability to make well-founded decisions even in difficult and complex situations.

About the Workplace

The Unit for Income and Guidance belongs to the business area Individual and Family Care (IFO) and Labor Market within Karlshamn Municipality. Here, 19 engaged employees work together with a unit manager, divided into four specialized groups: reception, ongoing, introduction (refers to assigned refugees), and budget and debt counseling. Within the groups, there are also specialized assignments focusing on incorrect payments (FUT) and estate administration.

You will become part of a stable and experienced work group where several colleagues have long experience of working within financial assistance. At the unit, there is an active leadership presence from both the unit manager and the first social worker. Through professional external supervision, you have the opportunity to raise your own needs and process emotions based on what you encounter in your work.

We apply flexible working hours agreements, the possibility to exchange holiday pay for more holiday days, and are keen to enable work, to the greatest extent possible, so that it can be combined with family life and a meaningful leisure time with good opportunities for recovery. In 2026, a health pause is offered, which will be replaced by a wellness allowance from 2027.

In the position, you will receive an individual introduction that we adapt based on your needs and previous experience.
