The Role

As a Social Worker in this unit, your responsibilities include preliminary assessments, investigations, decision-making, and follow-up of interventions for adults over 20 with substance abuse issues and/or needs for interventions under the Violence in Close Relationships (ViNR) act. Decisions are made according to the Social Services Act (SoL) and the Care of Abusing Persons Act (LVM). The unit also investigates applications for "Housing First" initiatives.

In short, the role includes:

- Providing advice and services to citizens seeking support.

- Investigating, making decisions, and following up on interventions according to SoL and LVM.

- Investigating applications for Housing First.

Since many of the citizens we meet have co-occurring disorders, this role requires strong collaboration skills, both internally and externally.

Challenges and Opportunities

The Adult Unit is growing, and we therefore need to expand our team with an additional Social Worker, bringing the total to six. Working as a Social Worker with us is incredibly exciting, enjoyable, and challenging, while also requiring you to meet individuals where they are and motivate them to change based on their individual circumstances.

Across all departments and units at the Social Services Administration, there is exciting work underway based on the new Social Services Act that came into force in July 2025. Together, we have great opportunities to shape how we work with these target groups in the future to meet the intentions of the legislation. Work with the target group of harmful use and addiction is also likely to face exciting changes in the coming years due to the co-occurring disorders reform.

The challenges you may encounter in this role include the importance of meeting the client where they are, and the fact that the individual may not always wish to undergo the change we are trying to motivate them toward. Another challenge is dealing with situations where we must intervene against a client's will and apply for involuntary care under LVM. In all work, but especially in work that goes against the client's own wishes, it is required to be professional, clear, and empathetic.

What You Need to Bring

To succeed in this role, you must have:

• A degree in Social Work (Social Worker).
• Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
• Good documentation skills.
• A B-class driver's license (Norrtälje is large in area).

The following are considered meritorious:

• Experience in authority enforcement within Violence in Close Relationships (ViNR).
• Experience in authority enforcement within harmful use and addiction.
• Training in ASI, MI, and Freda.
• Experience working with co-occurring disorders and mental health issues.

The unit consists of both authority and service providers. We are an engaged team consisting of six social workers, a group leader, and a unit manager. Since 2025, housing coaches, housing support staff, and budget and debt counselors have also been working here, enabling close, enjoyable, and varied collaboration between providers and the authority, where we have seen good results for citizens.
