Malmö is growing! We are now looking for a Water Strategist to help shape the future of Malmö together with us at the City Planning Department.

Guided by the key principles of equality, architectural quality, and climate, the City Planning Department works on issues that affect both our immediate present and future generations. Urban development is key to many of the societal challenges we face, and we see endless opportunities to create a city where all residents of Malmö can thrive.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a new colleague to join our Urban Planning and Sustainability division. As a Water Strategist, you will lead, develop, and coordinate the city's work on water issues from a physical planning perspective, both strategically and tactically. You will work with Malmö's waterways, sea areas, canals, harbor basins, and other water bodies.

You will lead projects and processes for both geographic areas and thematic assignments for the entire city, as well as inter-municipal water issues. You will lead your own projects and participate in others, primarily within the comprehensive planning and other strategic processes, influencing detailed plans and implementation. You work professionally and with social competence in teams, both within the division and across administrations.

You have a coordinating role between administrations and companies, creating implementation capacity for improved water quality, climate adaptation, as well as ecological, economic, and social sustainability. You scan the external environment and keep up to date with developments in water issues. You support and coach your colleagues to increase courage, innovation capacity, and knowledge regarding Malmö's water.

Qualifications

You have a Master's degree (300 ECTS) in environmental science, urban planning, or public administration, or alternatively a Civil Engineer degree in civil engineering, or another university/college education that the employer deems equivalent.

You have experience in strategic and tactical work with water issues, as well as project management and administrative work. You have good ability to communicate in Swedish, both orally and in writing, and can adapt messages to different target groups. You also have experience working with the Office package.

Knowledge of other languages is meritorious. It is also meritorious if you have previously worked with water issues in an organization with political governance. Further merits may consist of experience and familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), image processing, map services, and similar. Finally, it is also meritorious to have worked in the urban development sector, with comprehensive and/or detailed planning, where water issues have been prominent.

As a person, you are relationship-oriented and see the value of a comprehensive and effective network. You are receptive, communicative, and responsible, possess the courage to make decisions on varying grounds, and can translate theory into practice. You are confident in your expert knowledge and have the ability and willingness to share it with others, but also show understanding that it must be weighed against other subject areas. You can work strategically and identify and develop positive, engaging visions for the organization's future potential, while also seeing how these visions can be implemented and realized.

As a Water Strategist, you need to build good relationships and collaborate with other administrations, municipalities, and external partners. The coordinating role between administrations and companies, such as VA Syd and Sydvatten, is a crucial part of your assignment. The position therefore places high demands on teamwork skills as you will work closely with colleagues who work both strategically and more implementation-oriented, within your own department as well as in other administrations.
