The Department of Systems and Space Technology, where the university has gathered research and education in space technology, control engineering, data science, and systems science, is seeking an Assistant Professor to contribute to research and teaching in planetary science. The position is located at the Space Technology Division in Kiruna. The division offers several master's programs in space science and technology. The research on campus focuses on, and has a strong track record in, experimental planetary science.

Subject Description
Atmospheric science encompasses research on the atmospheres of Earth and other planets through modeling, as well as the development and use of instruments for remote sensing and in situ measurements. Special focus is placed on the dynamic, chemical, and physical processes of the atmosphere, as well as improved weather and climate forecasting.

Responsibilities
As an Assistant Professor, you will contribute to the group's joint development of research and teaching in planetary science at the Kiruna Space Campus. You will teach and coordinate courses related to planetary and/or atmospheric science at the undergraduate and graduate levels. You will supervise master's students and doctoral candidates, conduct your own research, and support other research projects. Crucially, you will prepare and contribute to grant applications to initiate new research directions related to experimental planetary science. You will actively contribute to the growth of the group by exploring various funding opportunities and using your network to expand our external collaborations.

Qualifications
You hold a PhD in physics, astronomy, geology, or planetary science and are an expert in concepts and methods within experimental planetary science. Eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor is anyone who has completed a PhD or has equivalent scientific competence. Priority should be given to candidates who have completed their PhD no more than five years before the application deadline. In special circumstances, a PhD obtained earlier may be considered. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, trust-based positions, or similar conditions.

• Documented research experience in experimental planetary science, in the laboratory and/or in connection with space missions.
• Experience with space simulation in a laboratory setting.
• Documented scientific productivity, evidenced by a strong publication list in international, reputable journals.
• Documented ability to attract external research funding, both in Sweden and internationally.
• Documented experience in teaching and supervision at the undergraduate and/or master's level. Experience as an assistant supervisor for doctoral candidates is meritorious.
• Very good command of English.
• Ability to work in large, international teams.

Probation for Associate Professorship
The purpose of the appointment is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and gain merit both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for eligibility for an appointment as an Associate Professor.

An Assistant Professor shall, upon application, be promoted to Associate Professor and appointed on a permanent basis if they are eligible for an appointment as an Associate Professor, and if, upon evaluation, they are deemed suitable for such an appointment according to the evaluation criteria specified below.

For the evaluation, the Assistant Professor is required to have completed higher education pedagogy equivalent to 7.5 ECTS credits, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. During the employment period, the Assistant Professor must also, independently, to a considerable extent, and with high quality, have contributed to the university's research and demonstrated good pedagogical skill.
