About the operations

Bergslena Upper Secondary School is an adapted school offering four-year programs for students with intellectual disabilities. We offer six national vocational programs and the individual program, where students study six subject areas. The goal is for students to become employable within their chosen vocational focus or to progress as far as possible in their knowledge development. The operations are characterized by a secure learning environment and a professional approach to the target group. Short-term supervision is also offered for students at Bergslena Upper Secondary School's units before and after school hours. As an employee, you become part of a committed collegium where we together create meaningful teaching and lay the foundation for lifelong learning. Bergslena Upper Secondary School is located on Bergslenagatan, Viared, and Sörmarksgatan.

Responsibilities

As a study and career counselor, you are part of the school's student health team and work across the school's three units with standard SYV (Study and Career Counselor) tasks. The student health team consists of the following roles: school counselor, special educator, SYV, school nurse, and school psychologist. The team is led by the principal, and you report directly to the upper secondary school manager. Your tasks include, among others:

  • Study and career counseling in an individualized, systematic, and long-term manner at the organizational level.
  • Individual conversations in the form of personal meetings with students.
  • Classroom discussions, supporting teaching teachers in study and career counseling.
  • Being a support for students in the choice and decision-making process.
  • Student prognoses for the long and short term.
  • Contact with businesses and authorities related to the student's future employment.
  • Various forms of study visits.
  • Prorenata, journal system.

The work is varied, and you participate in student health meetings, organize information meetings/open houses, and collaborate with other schools and other SYVs in both adapted school forms as well as primary and upper secondary schools. In the adapted upper secondary school, contact with guardians/parents is included to ensure the counseling is particularly clear.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a degree in study and career counseling. You have good social competence, take initiative, can work independently and in teams. It is important that you have understanding for and experience with the target group, are positively inclined towards challenges, and work in a creative manner. You have insight and knowledge about the importance of digitalization in your work. You are accustomed to working in Office and have the routine of documenting your work. Knowledge of LSS (Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments) and its content, as well as experience with the target group, is meritorious. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability and the ability to collaborate with other functions at the school.
