Are you interested in developing next-generation genomic technologies and contributing to future methods for the analysis of single cells and rare cell populations? We are looking for an engaged and qualified postdoctoral researcher for the Research and Development (R&D) activities at NGI at Uppsala University, part of SciLifeLab Genomics.
NGI is one of Europe's leading academic infrastructures for large-scale sequencing and SNP genotyping, providing advanced technologies and scientific support to researchers in Sweden and internationally. The activity is characterized by collaboration, high technical competence, and access to modern instrumentation, automated workflows, and extensive bioinformatics expertise (https://ngisweden.scilifelab.se/ (https://ngisweden.scilifelab.se/)).
The position is linked to a fully funded SciLifeLab Technology Development Project (TDP) focusing on the development of groundbreaking methods for analyzing copy-number variations (CNV) from single cells and rare cell populations.
Job Description
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will play a key role in the development, optimization, and implementation of innovative workflows for copy-number analysis from extremely low amounts of genetic material. The project combines methods that enable high-resolution genomic mapping and scalable screening of rare cell populations.
The project addresses central questions in biomedical research, such as tumor heterogeneity at the single-cell level during clonal cancer development, and loss of the Y chromosome (LOY) in connection with immunological aging, disease predisposition, and human reproduction.
The work is carried out in close collaboration between leading research groups at Uppsala University (Jan Dumanski, Jessica Nordlund), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Joakim Lundeberg), the SciLifeLab Genomics Platform, and relevant industrial partners. The appointed postdoctoral researcher is expected to work interdisciplinarily within the SciLifeLab environments in both Uppsala and Solna.
Qualifications
The position requires documented experience in the following:
- A completed PhD degree (or foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD) in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, cell biology, or another related field. The degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made. In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and local guidelines for postdoctoral positions, preference is given to applicants who have completed their PhD no more than three years before the last application date. Deductions for statutory leave such as parental leave, sick leave, or union duties are made according to current regulations.
- Very good practical experience in laboratory molecular biology work
- Experience with low-input or single-cell-based methods
- Experience with data analysis including programming languages such as Python and/or R
- Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
Desirable Qualifications
It is desirable if the applicant also has documented experience in:
- Massively parallel sequencing (Next-Generation Sequencing, NGS)
- Array-based SNP genotyping
- Development of laboratory methods and protocols
- Spatial transcriptomics, flow cytometry and cell sorting (FACS), DNA amplification techniques such as MDA and PTA
- Bioinformatics analysis in a Linux/UNIX environment
We are looking for you who have a positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, and find it easy to collaborate with others and thrive in teams with different competencies. You enjoy working in a dynamic and collaborative research environment and are motivated by developing together with others.
About the Position
The employment is fixed-term for 2 years according to the central collective agreement. The position is full-time. Start date: August 15, 2026, or as agreed. Location: Uppsala.
