Language Support Staff in Educational Activities at the Sami School

The Sami School Board is a government agency with its office in Jåhkåmåhkke. The Sami School is an educational form equivalent to the compulsory school, offering teaching from pre-school class to grade 6. The starting point for the teaching is Sami culture and the Sami language according to the curriculum for the Sami School. The Sami School Board also operates preschools in agreement with the respective municipalities. The agency has operations in Giron, Gárasavvon, Váhtjer, Jåhkåmåhkke, and Dearna. The Sami School Board organizes distance education in the Sami languages and supports the development and production of teaching materials for Sami education.

We are currently seeking 4 positions for language support staff.

Job Responsibilities

The position consists of a study-related employment with salary (20%) and the role of language support staff in educational activities (10%).

Employment Terms

You will be employed at one of our schools or preschools and work as language support staff for 4 hours per week, scheduled in agreement with the principal at the unit. The position is a fixed-term appointment in the form of a substitute position. You will be employed for one academic year at a time, with the possibility of extension provided that you continue your studies and that necessary decisions are made within the Sami School Board.

Qualifications

• You must be admitted to and enrolled in a preschool teacher education, compulsory school teacher education, or teacher education for school-age educare.
• The studies can be distance or on-site, but you must have the opportunity to work in our operations every week. Therefore, we primarily address those who reside in one of the locations where we operate our schools and preschools.
• Good knowledge of one of the Sami variants is a requirement. You must be able to use Sami as a working language.
• Documented good teamwork skills are a requirement.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability. You have a positive view of people, a genuine interest in pedagogy and the development of children and students. You have good Sami cultural competence and enjoy working with children and young people.

We would prefer that you have upper secondary studies in Sami or can validate your competence with the help of the Sami School Board. You should not have a higher education pedagogical qualification from before. It is meritorious if you take on extra work in our operations during your studies, but this is not a requirement.

• Salary: Monthly salary. The Sami School Board applies individual salary setting.
• Employment Type: Fixed-term employment (substitute).
• Duration: 6 months or longer (one academic year at a time).
