Team Leader for Service Unit – Recycling Centre Nyäng
The Technical Division in Nyköping consists of five business areas: Streets/Parks/Harbour, Nyköping Water, Waste Management, Municipal Properties, and Meal Service. These are supported by a project unit, an economic unit, and an administrative staff. The division has an annual turnover of approximately 1.5 billion SEK, active investments of around 2 billion SEK, and employs over 400 permanent staff. Our commissioning bodies are the Municipal Executive Board, the Environment and Urban Planning Committee, and the Culture and Leisure Committee.
The Service Unit is the newest addition to the Technical Division, focusing on sustainability, service, and the development of individuals in labor market initiatives. The unit is responsible for the reuse of furniture, bicycle service and repair, internal service, and certain maintenance tasks, primarily within park management. We will also be responsible for the new recycling center Nyäng, expected to be completed by the end of the year. Our goal is to advance the municipality's sustainability efforts and achieve ecological, social, and economic sustainable societal development in line with Agenda 2030.
About the Role
The Service Unit is now seeking an engaged and creative Team Leader who wants to lead and develop the municipality's operational work at the recycling center and in reuse collection activities. You will be part of the sustainable handling of furniture, bicycles, and other resources, while simultaneously creating conditions for participants in the operations to grow and gain good opportunities to compete on the labor market. Welcome to join our wonderful team!
1 position.
Responsibilities
As a Team Leader within the Service Unit, you play a central role in the development of our new recycling center (RC). You are responsible for daily operations and lead and participate in operational work to strengthen the collection of reusable items, focusing on increased reuse and reduced waste volume. A key part of your work is the environmentally safe handling of hazardous waste, including reporting and follow-up. Together with employees and partners, you ensure that reusable items are handled in a structured, safe, and sustainable manner.
The operation faces several important challenges, including developing and increasing the collection of reusable items, ensuring environmentally safe and correct handling of hazardous waste, and meeting high demands for documentation and reporting. At the same time, clear leadership is required to create a good work environment, efficient working methods, and professional treatment of visitors, in an operation characterized by change and increased sustainability ambitions.
We offer you an independent and responsible role in a socially important operation with a clear environmental and sustainability focus. You will have the opportunity to lead and develop RC staff as well as a work group with participants aiming to approach the regular labor market, where your leadership contributes to both operational development and social sustainability. The role gives you the opportunity to help develop a new recycling center, work closely with engaged colleagues, and make a real difference for both people and the environment.
Qualifications and Merits
You who apply should have:
- Documented experience in team leadership or coordination, preferably within waste management, RC, operations, or similar activities.
- Experience leading groups of staff.
- Upper secondary education, preferably with a technical, environmental, or social focus.
- Experience with documentation and reporting.
- Good computer skills.
- Valid driver's license (Category B).
- Front-end loader license.
It is meritorious if you:
- Have experience working with individuals far from the labor market.
- Have post-secondary education in environment, logistics, leadership, or equivalent.
- Have good knowledge of waste management, recycling, and reuse.
- Have basic knowledge of handling hazardous waste (HAZMAT) and relevant legislation.
Personal Qualities
We believe you are a confident and clear leader who thrives on being present in daily operations. You are structured, responsible, and capable of creating engagement and involvement among different staff groups. To thrive and succeed in the role, you appreciate operational leadership where you alternate planning and follow-up with practical work. You are comfortable with responsibility, prefer working according to clear routines, and value order, safety, and a good work environment.
- Interviews may be held on a rolling basis.
- Employment type: Permanent position.
