Job Description

The purpose of the WASP-HS research group on Autonomous Systems and Robotics in Society (https://robotsinsociety.blogs.dsv.su.se/ (https://robotsinsociety.blogs.dsv.su.se/)) is to promote critical interactional study and design of autonomous systems and robotics in society. This postdoctoral researcher will join this research group to develop interaction design research on robotics and autonomous systems in relation to the body. You will explore how appropriate robot touch could be and how to orchestrate negotiations of proximity in human-robot interaction. This also involves considering which bodies are designed for and expected by robots, as they are refined in their design. The postdoctoral position will be conducted within the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanity and Society (WASP-HS - https://wasp-hs.org/ (https://wasp-hs.org/)).

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A completed PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a PhD. The subject of the degree should be human aspects of ICT, human-computer interaction, or design. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Experience in designing for the body, or using somatic design, is desirable.
  • As researchers, we prefer that you have knowledge and skills in working with feminist theories to help conceptualize your work.
  • We prefer that you have experience working in an interdisciplinary team, particularly between social sciences and humanities.
  • It is preferable if you have the ability to build medium-fidelity physical prototypes.

Desirable Qualifications

  • At the last application date, no more than three years have passed since the PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a PhD was awarded.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues, with a particular focus on gender equality.

About the Position

The employment is permanent, but for a maximum of three years.

A postdoctoral position is a time-limited qualifying employment with a main focus on research, intended as a first career step after the PhD.
