Do you want to work with communication that makes a difference in society? With your communication efforts, you will contribute to more people accessing SMHI's weather warnings, decision support, and knowledge about weather, water, and climate. We are looking for a communicator who wants to work both strategically and operationally in close collaboration with experts and product owners.
About the role
You will primarily work with the Society Preparedness Department. The department contributes to societal benefit and reduced vulnerability by delivering products and services in real-time, 24/7, year-round to the public, public actors, and businesses. The services are based on expert knowledge and experience within all of SMHI's areas of competence and are designed to meet the needs of both the general public and specific target groups. The activities cover the authority's work with forecasts, warnings, observations, and operational models and are financed by both appropriations and external revenues.
In this role, you are responsible for both operational communication initiatives and long-term communication planning for the Society Preparedness Department, where communication is based on the authority's strategies, overall impact and operational goals, and transformation areas.
You will maintain a good and active daily dialogue with the various operational areas to jointly identify, prioritize, and implement communication initiatives, for example, related to the department's products, services, and projects. You will also provide support and advice on communication issues that arise within the department.
You will work on preparedness to plan and implement rapid operational communication activities in the event of various types of weather and water incidents, which may occasionally occur outside regular working hours. You may also support SMHI's cross-authority press work.
You will use your news sense and timing to actively participate in SMHI's editorial news work for both external and internal target groups, producing and publishing content in SMHI's channels. For example, you will work strategically and operationally with content on smhi.se, serving as a section editor for parts of the website, and produce content for social media in collaboration with the operations. You will provide practical support and advice to, among others, the forecast and warning operations regarding the production of film, moving media, and graphics.
You will also carry out communication initiatives for internal target groups, such as content on SMHI's intranet, on behalf of the department.
Your profile
You have a relevant university education in media and communication science or equivalent experience that we consider equivalent.
You have several years of experience and very good ability in:
- working as a communicator at both strategic and operational levels, preferably in a large organization
- being able to reprioritize work based on needs arising from current events, i.e., balancing long-term planned communication with need-driven rapid initiatives
- planning, developing, implementing, following up, and developing major communication initiatives
- adapting communication and developing messages for different target groups and channels
- conveying complex knowledge to broad target groups in an understandable way
- working structured and proactively with digital communication such as web and social media
Merits:
- experience working within the public sector
- experience in the production of film/moving media/graphics
- experience in news evaluation, news work, and media relations
- experience in crisis communication or preparedness operations
You have very good knowledge of Swedish and good knowledge of English, both spoken and written. You have good knowledge of Microsoft Office and Sitevision or another CMS. You also have knowledge in analysis and follow-up of web statistics, as well as current knowledge in accessibility and GDPR issues.
As a person, you are self-reliant and confident in your role as a strategic and operational communicator. You take responsibility for your tasks, drive processes forward, and have the ability to independently structure and prioritize your work. You have very good collaboration skills and enjoy dialogue with experts, colleagues, and external actors. You are flexible and easily adapt to changing conditions while working structured and meeting deadlines. In pressured situations, you are stable, maintain focus, and ensure that messages are clear and relevant.
With responsiveness and clarity, you create trust and contribute to communication being carried out with quality and consensus. You have strong linguistic and analytical skills and can evaluate, package, and convey complex messages in a pedagogical and target-group-adapted manner, both in writing and orally.
