Researcher in Language Testing and Project Management
The Department of Swedish and Multilingualism is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Humanities at Stockholm University, with approximately 140 employees and over 5000 students each academic year.
The Department of Swedish and Multilingualism conducts research and education in Swedish and Nordic languages, Swedish as a second language, bilingualism, as well as interpreting and translation studies. A significant part of the mission also involves teaching Swedish to international students and academics at the Department of Swedish as a Foreign Language, where high-stakes tests in Swedish are also constructed.

Project Description
The researcher will act as project leader and coordinator within Stockholm University's mission to develop language tests in Swedish for citizenship, in accordance with Stockholm University's https://www.uhr.se/om-uhr/nyheter/2025-nyheter/universitets--och-hogskoleradet-uhr-har-fatt-i-uppdrag-att-genomfora-en-forstudie-om-medborgarskapsprov/ (https://www.uhr.se/om-uhr/nyheter/2025-nyheter/universitets--och-hogskoleradet-uhr-har-fatt-i-uppdrag-att-genomfora-en-forstudie-om-medborgarskapsprov/).
Job Responsibilities
A central task is to be responsible for leading the work on developing a language test in Swedish and coordinating the work with other universities and authorities. Contributing to the scientific anchoring and development of the construction work is also an important task, as well as conducting research in the field of test construction. Practical work with test construction may be included.
Eligibility Requirements
A researcher is primarily employed for research and must have obtained a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree.
Assessment Criteria
In the appointment process, special emphasis will be placed on scientific competence in the relevant field for the position, as well as the extent of experience in project management and coordination.
For the position, documented experience in project management and leading groups, as well as coordination work within a university or between universities and/or authorities, is required.
Another requirement is documented theoretical knowledge of and/or documented practical experience in the construction of large-scale tests.
For the position, documented good ability to communicate in Swedish, both orally and in writing, is required.
The researcher must have obtained a doctoral degree (or have a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree) in Swedish as a second language, Swedish, Nordic languages, or another subject relevant to test construction or assessment theory, by the time the employment begins.
Meritorious Qualifications:
- Education in test construction and assessment,
- Education in language learning and language development.
- Experience in development work within the language assessment field,
- Experience with large-scale tests,
- Experience in developing language tests from scratch,
- Familiarity with the CEFR scale,
- Experience in assessing and testing second language skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing),
- Experience in teaching Swedish as a second language, Swedish as a foreign language, multilingualism, and/or test construction and assessment.
Additionally, documented good collaborative skills and administrative experience will be particularly considered, as well as the ability to collaborate with the surrounding community through information, research, and development work.
Eligibility and qualifications must be documented in a way that allows for the assessment of quality and scope in both the scientific activities and other competencies.
About the Employment
The position is for 50-100% for 1-2 persons and is permanent with a six-month probationary period. Start date as soon as possible, by agreement.
