At the Building and Environment Department in Pajala Municipality, we are now looking for a Building Permit Officer/Building Inspector who wants to contribute to sustainable and secure community building.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Building Permit Officer/Building Inspector, you are responsible for ensuring that constructions within the municipality are carried out correctly, safely, and in accordance with the Planning and Building Act. The role involves both processing, supervision, and contact with citizens, entrepreneurs, and politicians, which provides a diverse workday with great responsibility and a lot of independence.

Your main tasks include:

  • Processing building permits, preliminary decisions, notifications, and other PBL matters
  • Reviewing drawings, documents, and technical requirements as well as decisions according to PBL
  • Technical consultations, control plans, start and completion certificates
  • Supervision as needed
  • Site visits, inspections, and dialogue with builders
  • Service and guidance to residents and businesses as well as presenting cases in committees
  • Participation in digital development and improvements of work methods

The position requires you to be present in the organization, which limits the possibilities for remote work.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to a safe and sustainable community building. You are confident in the authority role, have good judgment, and can work both with people and with structured processing according to legislation. You formulate clear and well-motivated decisions and have a drive to develop and improve the organization.

Your qualifications:

  • Engaged in community building and legally secure authority exercise, with the ability to motivate decisions clearly and respectfully
  • Clear and confident in Swedish, both orally and in writing, as well as service-oriented with good communication and collaboration skills
  • Structured, responsible, and proactive, and enjoy both independent work and teamwork
  • Development-oriented, solution-focused, and comfortable with varied tasks
  • Have good digital competence and experience with digital work methods

We are looking for someone educated as a Building Permit Officer, Building Inspector, Building Technician, or with other equivalent education or work experience.

It is an advantage if you have worked within municipal operations with processing or supervision according to the Planning and Building Act, or have other experience related to building legislation and administrative law.

Knowledge of EDP Vision or similar case management systems, as well as proficiency in Finnish or Meänkieli, is also meritorious.

A B driver's license is a requirement, as part of the job involves independently conducted site visits and supervision.
