Senior Polymer, Formulation Chemist
Are you an ambitious chemist/chemical engineer with an interest in organic chemistry, ready to take next-generation technologies in the battery, electronics, and sustainable energy sectors from lab to global markets? We are now looking for a forward-thinking Senior Polymer / Formulation Chemist to lead the product development efforts for our groundbreaking conductive polymer solutions. At Westra Materials, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of our products from the inside out: working directly in our chemistry lab and collaborating with cross-functional teams. If you are ready to lead innovation where science meets market – we want to hear from you!
About Westra Materials
At Westra Materials, our vision is to create a greener tomorrow through our environmentally friendly, high-performance conductive polymers, designed to power the next generation of electronics and renewable energy. Our unique technology doesn’t just enhance performance—it enables eco-friendly batteries and electronics, free from harmful PFAS substances. Since our journey began in 2020, we have rapidly advanced toward becoming a key player in the global battery ecosystem. With 15 patents and over 30 customers worldwide, and as one of the “NyTeknik 30 most promising startups in Sweden” 2025 and TechArena 2025’s Top 46 Startups, we are paving the way for the future of electrification. Now, we’re ready to take our product strategy to the next level.
About the Role
As a Senior Polymer / Formulation Chemist, you will play a central role in the development and formulation of our conductive polymer systems. Your work will span from molecular and polymer design to formulation optimization and scalable synthesis, with a strong focus on translating materials into high-performance, application-ready products. You will be involved in increasing the technology readiness level and performance of our conductive polymers, adapting them for high-impact applications such as battery binders, electronics, coatings, and other functional systems. You will work hands-on in our new chemistry lab at our headquarters, collaborating closely with a team of technicians, engineers, and material scientists.
Some of the responsibilities include:
- Executing our product development and formulation roadmap for conductive polymers, aligning with our business goals and market opportunities
- Hands-on work in our R&D and engineering teams in our brand-new laboratory facilities to support the research, covering synthetic strategies, formulation development, and structure-property relationships, ensuring products meet technical and performance requirements
- Collaborating with sales and business development teams to translate customer requirements into innovative product solutions
- Supporting scale-up activities, transfer from lab to pilot/production, and adaptation to industrial processes.
- Supporting our IP strategy, patent drafting, and supporting regulatory and compliance activities where relevant
You will be based in our headquarters in beautiful Norrköping, Sweden, where we have our brand-new office and lab facilities, strategically located in the meeting hub space HOPE, Home of Organic Printed Electronics, which bursts with energy, innovation, and technical expertise. This is a rare opportunity to be part of building and scaling a world-changing product from the ground up, in collaboration with a passionate team of brilliant engineers and entrepreneurs. Welcome!
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for an ambitious chemist/chemical engineer with a background in polymers and/or formulation. You might already have experience in conjugated polymers, polymer formulations, or you are eager to grow your skills in these areas. Knowledge of battery binder chemistry, electronic coatings, or functional polymers is a great plus. Another plus is if you have experience in bringing new products to market, from early-stage R&D to high-volume series production, and if you have insight into IP management, regulatory compliance, or quality assurance. Most importantly, your background in chemistry allows you to deeply understand the core of our product and contribute meaningfully to its continued development and real-world impact.
On the personal side, you have a natural ability to smoothly work with cross-functional teams and collaborate across R&D, production, and commercial teams. You are a curious and analytical engineer who thrives when diving into complex challenges, and are at your best when you are close to the science. You take initiative, drive decisions, and maintain a can-do approach through challenges.
Do you feel like you are not a perfect match to the above? Apply anyway, and we will assess whether your profile is relevant, either now or in the future!
What We Offer
At Westra Materials, you get more than just a job – you get an opportunity to grow, develop, and be part of something big. We are an ambitious startup with global ambitions, and we want you to thrive and succeed with us. If you are passionate about making a meaningful impact, developing breakthrough technologies, this is your chance to be at the forefront of innovation in the conductive polymer space. Of course, we also offer a secure employment with pension and insurance benefits, as well as a generous wellness contribution, to help you stay healthy and perform at your best.
