IT Specialist in Linux at the National Library of Sweden
Do you want to join the operations team that makes it possible to find an article from 1867 about sewing or that music video from the 90s whose name no one remembers, while you stitch together a cluster node for advanced AI development?
The National Library of Sweden (KB) collects, describes, preserves, and makes accessible everything published in Sweden – from printed and digital material to film, sound, and web content. This places very high demands on robust and long-term IT environments. With us, you will use your technical skills in an operation where the systems are crucial for preserving and making important digital resources available for future generations. Our digital archive is large – tens of PB – and growing.
KB is now strengthening its Linux team with an additional IT specialist in Linux. If you have solid experience in Linux, focusing on RHEL, and want to work with operations, management, and further development of Linux-based platforms and systems in a large and complex on-prem environment, this could be a role for you!
Job Responsibilities
The role combines daily operations with work on Linux-based platforms and application environments in a primarily on-premises environment. The technical environment is largely based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and includes mission-critical applications running in both traditional server environments and on container platforms.
You will work closely with development teams and other infrastructure specialists and be responsible for a number of applications and platform components. The work is carried out in teams where members support each other during incidents and technical issues.
Job responsibilities include installation, configuration, updating, and troubleshooting of Linux servers and application environments, as well as managing incidents in production. You will participate in the ongoing technical transition to container-based platforms and contribute to the development of these environments. Automation and scripting are a natural part of the work, for example with tools like Ansible in Linux and Red Hat environments.
As an employee at KB, you contribute your experience and expertise to the continuous development of KB's operations and help create a good and respectful work climate.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
We are looking for someone with solid experience from a similar role who wants to work with operations, management, and further development of Linux-based platforms in a complex and mission-critical IT environment.
To succeed in this role, you need:
- at least a few years of current work experience as a Linux specialist
- very good knowledge of Linux/Unix with an emphasis on Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- experience with automation and scripting, for example with Ansible or equivalent tools
- knowledge of version control such as Git
- good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
Preferred qualifications include:
- relevant education in IT and technology or equivalent skills obtained in other ways
- knowledge of Red Hat Satellite
- experience with container technology, such as OpenShift, Kubernetes, or Docker
- knowledge of databases, such as PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, or equivalent
- knowledge of identity and access management, such as LDAP or Keycloak
- experience with technical documentation
As a person, you are structured and self-driven with a desire to develop. You have a good ability to plan and prioritize your work and work well both independently and with others. You are proactive in your work and contribute to the completion of tasks and improvements. We place great importance on your personal attributes.
Employment and Start Date
This is a permanent position that begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement. The position is located in central Stockholm.
KB operates in various locations, including Stockholm, Strängnäs, and Bålsta. Business trips are infrequent.
