Do you want to strengthen legal security?
At the National Board of Forensic Medicine, experts in forensic medicine, forensic chemistry, forensic genetics, and forensic psychiatry collaborate to provide the justice system with the answers it needs. Every detail can be crucial, and whether you work directly with analyses and investigations or in a supportive role, you contribute to a legally secure society.
The National Board of Forensic Medicine has received two new assignments – to conduct risk assessments on behalf of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding conditional release and to perform special risk investigations regarding security sentences on behalf of the court. The organization and structure of the operations will be shaped over the next year in collaboration with clients and employees. The assignments will take effect on January 1, 2026, and March 1, 2026, respectively. To meet an increased workload and new tasks, we are now recruiting several new employees.
We are now looking for a psychologist for a 12-month temporary position at the forensic psychiatric examination unit in Stockholm, located at Helix, near Huddinge Hospital.
Your assignment
The forensic psychiatric examinations are conducted by interdisciplinary teams consisting of forensic psychiatrists, psychologists, forensic social investigators, and investigative contact persons. The task is to answer the court's questions regarding serious mental disorders and the risk of reoffending from the perspective of each profession.
As a psychologist, you will play an important role in qualified diagnostic work, both with personality assessments and neuropsychological issues among a client group with a wide spectrum of disorders and problems. The work includes writing a psychological report that, together with the investigations of other professions, is sent to the court. You may also work with risk assessments of individuals sentenced to prison.
Qualifications
- Licensed psychologist.
Desirable
- Experience and knowledge in psychological assessment methodology regarding personality-related and neuropsychological diagnostics.
- Experience working with individuals with complex psychiatric, psychotic, or addiction-related issues.
- Experience working with individuals involved in a legal process, within forensic psychiatric care and/or the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
- Experience in forensic psychiatric investigative work.
Personal qualities and abilities
You have investigative experience and the ability to work at a high pace. Since the investigations to the court have fixed deadlines, the ability to work in a structured and efficient manner is required. The work requires a good ability to professionally meet the individuals being investigated. The work also places very high demands on collaboration skills, as you will collaborate with other professionals as well as your own profession.
You need to be independent in your assessments, have the ability to delineate your work, and you have a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing.
We place great importance on your personal qualities.
The employment
The employment is a 12-month full-time temporary position. Start date is according to agreement. Placement in Stockholm, Huddinge. Depending on the needs of the operations, there is the possibility to enter into a separate agreement for remote work for part of the working hours. The National Board of Forensic Medicine applies individual salary setting.
RMV is part of the legal chain, and we place high demands on employees' judgment and security thinking, as well as respect for law and order. As a representative of the National Board of Forensic Medicine, you follow the state value framework and contribute through your actions to legal security, legal certainty, and trust in the authority.
We conduct a background check by checking the criminal record before employment. RMV applies a competency-based recruitment process where psychological tests, knowledge tests, or work samples may occur. Before employing licensed healthcare professionals, checks are performed with the National Board of Health and Welfare and the Health and Social Care Inspectorate.
Upon employment at the National Board of Forensic Medicine, there is an obligation to be placed in a war position.
