Region Uppsala

We want to create conditions for more internationally educated employees to obtain Swedish licenses and specialist certificates.

If you have a degree in a licensed profession within healthcare from a country outside the EU/EES, there are various paths to Swedish licensure. Either through supplementary education at a Swedish university or via knowledge tests and practical training. We do our best to help you who are internationally educated in a licensed profession to find a place for practical training within Region Uppsala. An expression of interest does not guarantee a placement but is a way to show your interest. Your application will be saved until the application deadline and shared with Region Uppsala's International Office and interested managers in our various operations. We prioritize individuals living in Region Uppsala, but you who live in another region are also welcome to submit an expression of interest.

What does practical training entail?

Practical training is a requirement for obtaining Swedish licensure in certain professions, such as doctors, nurses, and dentists. During the training, you will work under supervision to demonstrate your competence in a Swedish clinical environment. Once the training is approved, and you have completed all other parts of the Socialstyrelsen's path to Swedish licensure, you can apply for a license from Socialstyrelsen. The practical training lasts for 3–6 months, depending on the profession. During this period, you are employed in the organization where you are doing your training and you will receive a salary. There is no guaranteed continued employment afterwards. After completing the training, you must wait for Socialstyrelsen's decision before you can work independently in a licensed profession.

To submit an expression of interest for practical training, you need:

  • Approved proof of the theoretical and practical parts of the knowledge test.
  • A decision from Socialstyrelsen that the next step is practical training.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language and a formal language certificate (C1, SVA3, or TISUS).
  • Attach your educational certificates, CV, and cover letter and answer our supplementary questions.
  • We also recommend that you have completed a course in legal knowledge before starting.

Information about your expression of interest

  • We have two application periods per year: February-May and September-November.
  • The advertisement is open for three to four months. After the application period has expired, the selection process will conclude, and the applications will be deleted according to applicable procedures. If you wish to continue showing interest, you are welcome to submit a new application when the next advertisement opens.
  • If you receive a placement, you must notify [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) that your application should be removed.
  • You need to monitor other advertisements with offers for practical training within Region Uppsala and apply for these separately.

Welcome with your expression of interest!

You can express your interest by registering your expression of interest via this advertisement. However, you can also directly contact our hospitals, health centers, and dental clinics, as it is the individual operation that decides whether they can offer practical training.
