Department of Women's Health
We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Here, something is always happening – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both challenging trials and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
Do you, like us, have a passion for women's health? Do you want to work with surgical care, emergency care, or do you have a dream of becoming a midwife in the future? Then we are the department for you!
The Department of Women's Health comprises two sections: the Obstetrics Section and the Gynecology Section. Within the Gynecology Section, we have our inpatient ward, Gynecology Ward 96C1, the gynecological specialist clinics including the gynecological emergency clinic, as well as the Reproduction Centre. The Obstetrics Section includes the delivery ward, the newborn unit (BB), and the obstetric specialist clinics. We have close collaboration between our different units within the department and are proud of the care we offer our patients throughout the Healthcare Region of Central Sweden.
Approximately 1,600 patients from the entire Healthcare Region of Central Sweden receive care at Gynecology Ward 96C1 each year. We are very proud to be certified as a European Centre of Excellence for advanced ovarian cancer surgery, operating on approximately 80-100 women with ovarian cancer annually. We also provide national highly specialized care for certain cases of endometriosis, where the focus is on advanced surgery.
Through our emergency clinic, patients of all ages with various gynecological conditions come for investigation, surgery, and treatment. At the abortion and contraception clinic, which falls under the gynecological specialist clinics, patients undergoing abortion up to gestational week 21+6 are cared for. As a nurse at the gynecology ward, your duties will also include supporting these activities.
We also have close collaboration with other units within the Department of Women's Health and care for certain obstetric patients.
Your Role
As a nurse or midwife at Gynecology Ward 96C1, you will care for patients who are investigated and operated on for gynecological cancer and other gynecological diseases. You will also meet patients seeking emergency gynecological care, for example with infections or complications during early pregnancy, as well as patients undergoing abortion. Here, you work in a care team with assistant nurses, doctors, and other roles.
Your Qualifications & Skills
You are a licensed nurse/midwife with a broad interest in women's health and surgical care. You are flexible, curious, and eager to learn, and possess good communication skills in both speech and writing. You value and contribute to a good collaborative climate.
We Offer
We offer a permanent position with 100% employment. Start date by agreement. Probationary period may apply. The position involves rotating shifts: day, evening, and night. During night shifts, the gynecological emergency clinic moves into the ward's premises, and you will also work with receiving, triaging, and handling patients seeking emergency gynecological care.
The position is suitable for both newly graduated nurses and experienced nurses. Together, we create a good work environment where you, as an employee, are an important part of driving and developing the operations forward to offer the best care for our patients.
Introduction is planned for four weeks, with the possibility of extension. As a newly graduated nurse, you will participate in the professional introduction "Clinically Developmental Year" as part of your onboarding. This provides in-depth knowledge and prerequisites for a good start in your new professional role as a nurse. The training constitutes 20% of your working time during the first year, with salary maintained.
With us, you receive benefits that make a difference; read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/ (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).
