The Swedish Academy is an independent cultural institution tasked with promoting the Swedish language and literature. The Academy is internationally known for its work with the Nobel Prize in Literature and for long-term linguistic resources such as SAOL, SAOB, svenska.se, and litteraturbanken.se.
The Academy is now looking for a system developer who wants to take long-term responsibility for the management and further development of our digital systems - in an environment where technology, language, and cultural heritage meet.
About the roleThe role is new and designed to complement existing development expertise. You will work closely with the Academy's operations and serve as a technical partner with a holistic perspective rather than a specialist in a single area.
The work is characterized by long-term thinking, quality, and precision. The systems you are responsible for are central both to the Academy's internal work and to the public's access to linguistic and literary resources.
The role entails a great deal of trust and a high degree of independence, in a small organization with short decision-making paths.
ResponsibilitiesThe work includes, among other things:
further developing and managing the Academy's public websites and digital services
developing and maintaining internal editorial and administrative tools
working with backend development, data services, and APIs
participating in the operation, maintenance, and improvement of server and application environments
working with data management, text processing, and various forms of pipelines
contributing to the modernization of older systems and codebases
participating in technical choices regarding architecture, tools, and working methods
The role combines development, system management, and a certain aspect of operations and DevOps work.
Who we are looking forWe are looking for someone who is a technical generalist with a broad system understanding and who thrives in contexts where stability, thoughtfulness, and responsibility weigh more heavily than quick deliveries.
You likely have:
several years of experience as a system developer, preferably with a backend focus
experience working in larger, mature, and partially historically built codebases
experience in operations, server environments, and system management
good knowledge of Python or equivalent languages
experience with databases, API development, and data processing
You express yourself fluently in Swedish.
As a person, you are self-driven, structured, and confident in taking responsibility. You appreciate environments with high trust, low prestige, and the opportunity to work long-term and in-depth.
What distinguishes the roleworking with systems that are part of Sweden's linguistic and cultural infrastructure
significant technical influence and the opportunity to make long-term impacts
focus on stability, quality, and sustainable solutions
working with unique linguistic and literary datasets
a calm, trust-based, and intellectual work environment
Location: Stockholm as a starting point but not a definitive requirement (forms of presence are adaptable) Scope: Full-time Employment type: Permanent Collective agreement applies
