Professional Representative for the Guardianship Unit in Södertälje
The Guardianship Unit in Södertälje is tasked with representing individuals who are unable to safeguard their interests on their own. The unit is therefore recruiting representatives to handle often complex cases. Support in the assignment is provided by a manager and team leaders, whom the representatives can turn to for guidance and advice.
The purpose of the Guardianship Unit's operations is to ensure that citizens with the greatest need for guardianship receive the assistance they are entitled to. Volunteer guardians and administrators continue to make up the majority of the contractors in the municipality.
The operations of the Guardianship Unit are primarily governed by the provisions of the Guardianship Act. The unit operates on behalf of the Supervisory Board, which is responsible for investigating the need for representatives for principals with, for example, severe mental disabilities, psychosis, substance abuse, or similar conditions. The appointment as a representative is personal and also applies to employed representatives.
The Guardianship Unit is organizationally placed within the Culture and Leisure Office.
Your Responsibilities
The assignments to the Guardianship Unit come from the Supervisory Board, which has assessed and determined the individual's need for guardianship. The role of an employed representative involves safeguarding rights, managing property, and caring for individuals. Responsibilities include maintaining contact with authorities, paying bills, reporting the principal's finances, and safeguarding the principal's interests in various contexts.
The daily work mainly consists of:
- representing the principal towards authorities and courts,
- maintaining ongoing contact with the principal and their network, such as housing staff,
- safeguarding rights and obligations in accordance with applicable legislation,
- applying for grants and benefits that the principal is entitled to, such as financial assistance,
- being responsible for documentation and financial reporting of the principal's assets.
The Guardianship Unit works in teams where employees, based on competence and experience, jointly support individuals with complex and multifaceted issues. At the same time, the assignment requires the ability to work independently and make decisions. The position entails significant responsibility, where the representative is responsible for safeguarding the principals' interests in legal and financial matters, such as during property sales, entering into financial agreements, or during inheritance distributions.
Who Are You?
Requirements:
- Higher education, such as a social worker, behavioral science, social science, or other education that, in combination with relevant experience, is deemed equivalent.
- Good knowledge of public authority operations and the Swedish legal system.

Meritorious:
- Previous assignments as a guardian or administrator.
- Knowledge of the supervisory authority's responsibilities and assignments.
- Experience in low-arousal responses and motivational interviewing.

Personal Attributes:
The role of a representative requires a good ability to manage both larger and smaller personal finances, as well as a structured approach with high accuracy in financial reporting. Since the representative makes decisions for individuals who are unable to do so themselves, personal stability, good judgment, and a respectful and humble approach towards the municipality's citizens are required.
The work involves contact with individuals in various life situations, which requires good collaboration skills, flexibility, and the ability to adapt working methods to the individual's needs. The position also requires resilience to stress and experience working in different environments and with varying tasks.
