Västernorrland Museum is looking for an archaeologist

Västernorrland Museum has a mission to preserve, develop, and make accessible the cultural heritage and cultural environments of the region. The museum's activities are extensive and include a broad museum experience delivered through digital channels and in the museum's physical environments, collection management, and cultural heritage care. The museum building and Murberget Open-Air Museum are located in Härnösand.

Within the contract archaeology operations, the archaeologists work with the region's cultural environments, cultural landscapes, and ancient remains. The majority of assignments consist of investigations, preliminary studies, and archaeological excavations, but research investigations and course activities also occur.

We are now looking for an archaeologist for the operations.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include independently participating in and conducting archaeological contract work. This includes planning, executing, and reporting investigations, preliminary studies, and archaeological excavations. We are looking for someone who can be primarily responsible for the technical part of the operations (GIS, various digital tools, etc.). Collection management, public tasks in the form of lectures and communication on social media are part of the job.

Qualifications

You have:

• Bachelor's degree with Northern European archaeology as the main subject
• Documented experience in contract archaeological fieldwork and reporting
• Technical interest and good experience working with GIS and experience in surveying with RTK-GPS
• Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written

· B driver's license

Meritorious

It is meritorious if you have:

• Master's degree with Northern European archaeology as the main subject

· Experience in contract archaeology work in Västernorrland

· Specialist competence in some archaeological area, such as osteology.

Other Information:

Employment type: Permanent position 100%. We apply a six-month probationary period. Start date according to agreement. Västernorrland Museum applies individual salary setting.
