Assistant Professor in Translational Pharmacology

The work is located at the Department of Pharmacology within the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Approximately 45 people work at the department, including eight full-time teachers, five of whom are in pharmacology and three in pharmacy. The department conducts teaching at both basic and advanced levels within most of Sahlgrenska Academy's programs as well as doctoral education. Teaching is conducted in Swedish and English.

The research at the department encompasses several subject areas, all related to pharmacology. As an assistant professor at the Department of Pharmacology, the salary (100%) and rental of office and laboratory space are funded by the department. You also have access to the department's shared equipment and the opportunity to receive assistance from a laboratory assistant funded by the department. An externally recruited assistant professor also receives a start-up grant of 1 million SEK from Sahlgrenska Academy.

Responsibilities

The holder of the position will conduct research with translational potential related to the subject. The research should have a high potential to generate external funding. Research constitutes the most important and extensive task. The holder of the position should also be able to teach in Swedish and/or English at both basic and advanced levels in all programs where pharmacology is part of the teaching, i.e., most programs at Sahlgrenska Academy. In addition, the holder of the position should be able to teach courses offered within doctoral education. The holder of the position should also be able to supervise students at the bachelor's and master's levels as well as doctoral students within the subject. As the holder of the position, you may be required to perform certain common administrative tasks for the department, primarily course leadership but also departmental and academy-wide tasks.

The holder of the position who lacks higher education pedagogical training must undergo such training within one year from the start of the position.

Eligibility

Eligibility for employment as an assistant professor is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance and Gothenburg University's employment regulations.

Eligible for employment as an assistant professor is one who has obtained a doctoral degree in a relevant field or has equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, the candidate should have obtained their doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline for the assistant professorship. However, those who have obtained their doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. Reasons, dates, and extent of absence must be clearly specified in the application and substantiated with certificates.

The ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement.

Employment

Fixed-term employment for 4 years, full-time (100%). Placement at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date by agreement.

An assistant professorship is fixed-term and defined as a qualification position. The purpose of the position is to provide the applicant with the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for eligibility as a university lecturer. The position may be renewed, but for a maximum of two additional years if additional time is required to achieve the purpose of the position due to illness, parental leave, or other special reasons. The requirements for promotion to university lecturer are based on the assessment criteria established by the Faculty Board of Sahlgrenska Academy.
