The Department of Health and Care Sciences conducts education and research focusing on care, health, and people's living conditions. We train nurses, radiographers, specialist nurses, and midwives with the aim of meeting society's need for competent and dedicated healthcare personnel. The research at the department spans many areas but has a common starting point in person-centered and evidence-based care. We are nationally and internationally leading in person-centered care, and this perspective permeates both education, research, and collaboration with healthcare. The department is part of the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg and operates on the Medicinareberget Campus, in close proximity to Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Our department has approximately 1,200 students training in regulated professions in healthcare, both at undergraduate and advanced levels.

We are looking for an employee with a strong interest in teaching, who is interested in working with both course development and pedagogical development. The employee should have a strong commitment to conveying knowledge to students and a significant pedagogical engagement.

The position is primarily located within the section for Diagnostics and Care in Acute and Critical Conditions.

Nursing with a focus on surgical care

Subject Description

Nursing is based on a humanistic view of humanity and encompasses knowledge about human development, health, and well-being in connection with birth, illness, suffering, and death. The starting point is to promote a meaningful life despite illness or functional variation, as well as to enable a dignified death. The focus of nursing is to alleviate suffering, promote health, and prevent illness and poor health at the individual, group, and societal levels. Nursing is based on needs and problems related to health and illness and daily life, but also on individuals' resources and ability to manage their life situation.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include teaching and examination, course responsibility, supervision of theses, and supervision of students in clinical placements. The tasks primarily take place in areas of infection prevention and control.

As a course responsible teacher, you will be involved in planning courses, developing and coordinating learning objectives, learning activities, examination forms, and assessment criteria in relation to content, purpose, and current pedagogical research, as well as ensuring the quality of education with validated evaluation methods.

Teaching primarily occurs at the advanced level in the specialist nursing program, but teaching also takes place at the undergraduate level within the nursing program, radiography program, and supplementary education for nurses with qualifications outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland (KUSSK). If necessary, relevant tasks may also be carried out in collaboration with other sections of the department.

Administrative tasks related to educational activities are a significant part of the job responsibilities.

Furthermore, you will be actively involved in the subject development of the main area as well as collaboration with healthcare regarding clinical placements. Other tasks may also occur, and the content of the position may change over time.

The position also includes actively contributing to achieving the department's goals and operational plan, which includes working to develop the academic environment within the section's Complete Academic Environment (KAM). In addition, all employees are expected to participate in planned joint meetings and activities organized by the department.

The applicant should teach in both Swedish and English.

Qualifications

Qualifications for employment as a teacher are specified in the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.

Demonstrated pedagogical skill and completed higher education at least at the advanced level in nursing, health sciences, or equivalent competence or other skills that are significant in relation to the subject matter of the position and the tasks to be included in the employment. A specialist nursing degree with a focus on surgical care and a Swedish nursing license are required.

Proficiency in Swedish and English in both spoken and written form is required.
