The Cultural Administration works for a broad art and cultural life for everyone to participate in. We strive for a sustainable and open city that places culture and art at its center.
The Cultural Administration has approximately 800 employees who mainly operate within libraries, cultural centers, museums, and other cultural activities.
Job Responsibilities
Do you want to help shape the future of the educational activities at the Gothenburg Museum of Art? With a unique collection of art from the 15th century to the present and through innovative exhibitions and programs, we work to make art accessible, relevant, and engaging for a wide audience.
We are now looking for an art educator with coordination responsibilities who wants to take clear overall responsibility for leading, structuring, and developing the museum's educational activities – both strategically and operationally. Here, you will work in a dynamic environment where history meets contemporary art and where pedagogy is a central part of the museum's mission.
In this role, you will have a cohesive and driving function within the educational mission. You will plan, prioritize, and coordinate the educational mission in its entirety, including the creative activities in the Studio, ensuring quality, continuity, and development over time. You will structure the work in close relation to exhibitions and programs, distribute and follow up on efforts, and initiate and drive development work within pedagogy.
The assignment includes both public work and administrative and coordinating tasks. You will collaborate closely with colleagues within the museum and act as a link between different functions in the organization. Through clarity, structure, and a holistic perspective, you will contribute to common working methods and a sustainable operation.
The educational activities target all demographics, with a particular focus on children and youth, and are characterized by an inclusive and accessible approach. You will be part of working groups and networks, both internally and externally, collaborating with stakeholders such as schools, universities, civil society, as well as the art and cultural sector in various contexts.
Together with colleagues, you will contribute to a positive work environment and help the organization achieve its set goals and further develop.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a bachelor's degree in art and visual studies or another art historical education that the employer assesses as equivalent. You have previous experience in leading and mentoring groups as well as work experience in exhibition activities, preferably within museum or gallery operations. You possess good digital skills and experience working in diverse digital office environments, as well as a strong ability to quickly adapt to new programs and working methods as needed. Experience with artistic techniques and practical work in a workshop is an advantage.
To succeed in this role, you are clear in your communication, gain support for your thoughts and ideas, and can influence decisions in a certain direction. Through persuasive arguments, you bring enthusiasm and energy that encourages good performance, team spirit, and increased motivation. You have good pedagogical skills and understand how individuals absorb knowledge based on different conditions. You adapt your way of conveying messages to the recipient and encourage dialogue, participation, and engagement.
Furthermore, you work well with others by listening, showing interest and respect, and contribute to ensuring that the common mission is carried out in the best way. You plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively, ensuring that tasks are completed on time and following up on results. You contribute new ideas and perspectives in your work and in problem-solving, are curious, and encourage dialogue while translating your creativity into practice.
