Open Position as Lecturer at the Swedish Defence University
The Swedish Defence University is an internationally renowned institution in defense, crisis management, and security. We offer a unique academic environment where civilian meets military. We educate civilian and military leaders, experts, and researchers who will analyze and manage today's and future crisis situations and security problems. The Swedish Defence University trains Sweden's officers and leads the academic development of the officer profession. We conduct research in law focusing on operational law and international law, defense systems, war science, leadership and management, military history, and political science.
Defense systems is a subject at the intersection of social sciences and engineering that examines how technical and social components affect the systems used for the defense and security of society. Within the subject of defense systems, both research and education address how military units with new equipment should be organized or how the next generation of combat aircraft should be designed to achieve the greatest possible air defense effect or other critical areas such as energy supply under challenging conditions. Please read more about the subject and our activities here: Defense Systems (https://www.fhs.se/utbildning/vara-amnen/forsvarssystem.html).
The Department of Defense Systems is one of six departments at the Swedish Defence University. The Department of Defense Systems is characterized by an academic environment where education and research meet and where teachers and researchers collaborate in theory and practice.
Do you want to research and teach at the intersection of defense, society, and technology? We offer an attractive position in a unique environment where you can deepen your knowledge in areas that have a significant impact on societal development.
The position is located at the Department of Defense Systems in Stockholm.
Job Responsibilities
The job responsibilities include research as well as teaching and administration within the subject of defense systems with a focus on capability development and defense innovation.
Capability development here means systematically building up, strengthening, and improving a country’s, an authority’s, or an organization’s ability to meet future challenges through analysis, planning, investments in personnel, organization, and technology, as well as through cooperation with allies.
Defense innovation here means implementing new or significantly improved ideas in practice within the defense area (civilian or military) to create value through new products, services, processes, or organizational methods. This can involve incremental improvements or groundbreaking changes.
Within this focus, defense systems conduct both educational programs, courses, and research. There is a high demand for this competence. The position involves, in addition to conducting and planning one's own research, course responsibility and supervision, pedagogical development work, educational planning and administration, examination, follow-up and evaluation of education, as well as academic trust assignments.
Research, teaching, and supervision take place within both civilian and military educational programs.
General Requirements
A teacher at the Swedish Defence University, civilian or military, must have completed higher education pedagogical training (according to the Swedish Association of University Teachers and Researchers, SUHF, recommendations on goals for eligibility-giving higher education pedagogical training and mutual recognition (REK 2016:1)) or other pedagogical training that leads to equivalent competence, with a passing result, before employment or no later than two years after the employment has commenced.
Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English.
